Selfish purchases?

I've just finished a block of Cornish yarg for my post-lunch snack. My God it was good.

I've realised luxury cheese is the one food item I buy for entirely selfish purposes. DH is vegan, and DC only like cheddar. TBH I LOVE that no one else will touch it. Is it bad that more and more of my salary goes on cheese, specifically for this reason? 😄

What are your most selfish purposes?

Certainly not cheese. Here, a new cheese promises a post-supper pile-on. Every man, child and Labrador for themselves.

For me, it's L'Occitaine bath soaks and Diptyque candles. They go entirely unnoticed by every other resident of this house. Which, considering their price, is for the best.

Whenever I selfishly purchase food either DH or one of the DCs suddenly declare it their Favourite Food Ever and demolish it 😡 even if they don't know what it is! Bought some dates the other day thinking none of them would like them; DS aged 7 would've polished off the lot if I'd let him.

One thing I do get (which I hide from the DC and DH doesn't like) are the sparkling CBD drinks either by Trip or Goodrays. They aren't cheap but I don't drink alcohol so these are my special treat.

Mini Cheddars.
Fortunately DH doesn't like them and DS understands that they're mine. In return, I respect his right to all the Hula-Hoops.

I know it’s a light hearted thread, but why is it selfish to buy something only you like? It’s a bit of cheese not a Russian Faberge egg. I’m a bit puzzled as i do it all the time!

Very decent chocolate. I was brought up on the real deal (Neuhaus, Cote d'or etc..)

Can't stand the crap like Cadbury etc..

Ha! You're right. I just can't shake a little crumb of guilt....

My husband is diabetic so I get to eat all the Christmas chocolates - although well meaning relatives buy sugar free gifts a lot of the time, spoilsports Grin I have been known to buy something sweet and sugary knowing DH won't be able to have any.

Jellybean23 · 21/11/2023 16:58

I buy cheese too (husband hates it) but I also buy food only he likes so I don't feel a shred of guilt.

A teapigs advent calendar
Fancy chocolates when I bought my dc some Cadbury chocolate

Good call. I'd struggle with this, personally, as I pretty much like all food....😁

Those crisps that are different shapes from M&S (although other supermarkets do their own versions now) are my selfish little secret. There's a tube, a round grid and a square one - might be called party mix? Anyway, the salt and black pepper flavour are my absolute favourite crisps and I can probably eat most of the bag. I don't like sharing with OH as he doesn't get how special they are 😄so I get them whe he's away.
