I think people who know how to sleep probably aren't posting on here at this hour...

Choose a topic e.g. fruit or countries...

Then go through the alphabet from A-Z naming an item from your topic

e.g. apple, banana, cherry.....

If/when you get stuck don't give up, keep trying to find something. Keep focused on the task at hand. Hopefully you should be asleep before you get to Z. If not move on to a new topic....

Albania, Brazil, Canada........zzzzz!

Lie very still and start at 10 in your head. Every time you adjust position you lose a point. The aim is to never get to 0 as hopefully your body will be so relaxed you're asleep by then.

Alternatively go to bed when you know your wife has been asleep for about 45 minutes, making sure you wake the sleeping baby, who will then scream until said wife feeds them and you can sleep soundly knowing you now don't have to do anything useful overnight ever.

That's very true.

I lie on my back and try to concentrate on my breathing

I wish I knew! Sometimes it helps to count backwards from 999. Sometimes I plan what I'd do with a lottery win.

I read about this website: <<mysleepbutton.com/support/do-it-yourself-cognitive-shuffle-sdi/>> somewhere, it works for me sometimes, although I have only tried the diy version.

A nice cup of tea and a wagon wheel. Watching youtube and not giving a damn about the morning and tomorrow. Sleeping two hours before its time to get up. Just crashing out when it takes you. Then.......feeling like shit for the rest of the day when nothing gets done and you just collapse in your chair. Oh for the woes of an old woman who lives alone. hehehehe

Tense your body, then release slowly from your head to your toes. Start with eyebrows then mouth etc. you might not sleep but you will be a more relaxed awake you.

Don’t stay in bed. Get up.

Go downstairs and make a cup of tea and grab a few biscuits. Ginger biscuits work for me. Switch on the telly, an hour of BBC news on repeat should have you reaching for the matchsticks to keep your eyelids open.
Remember, sleep is all about quality not quantity.

Don’t look at the time and stress about what time you have to get up or how many hours of sleep you are going to get. Your body will catch itself up - you can always go to bed early tomorrow.
