Minimum amount of sleep you need to feel alert?

Hello! Just wondered what everyone’s minimum amount of sleep they need is out of interest to feel alert and well? 😀

I had five hours sleep (straight) last night and feel amazing!! I’m 31.

I think the last year I’ve been having broken sleep as Dc (1yo) has been a regular waker - every 2 hours.

I think even before Dc I did well on 5-6 hours max. It’s the broken sleep it seems that is a killer!?

This week the longest I’ve had is 3 hours 43 minutes and the shortest 2 hours 56 minutes (yes data is from bloody Fitbit) and I’m very very ratty and stressed out. I can manage on this OK but everyone around me suffers. I’m hopeful of getting a full night next week perhaps.

Around 6-8 hours but this depends abd it's often broken so not a deep good quality sleep. I can remember to this day 😂the amazing feeling when I woke up after a solid 8 hrs deep sleep. Literally bouncing the next day with great skin

I can function on 5 hours sleep easily. I've always struggled hugely with my sleeping patterns as I'm a night owl and takes me forever to switch off. I usually get 5-6 hours sleep if I'm lucky. Whereas my partner cannot function without less than 9 hours

I have long Covid and really need 8-9 hours. I don't always sleep well though and, even if I do, often wake feeling drugged and groggy, like today for example.

Sorry to hear you have long covid. Hopefully you are seeing some improvements even if it’s small.

My sleep is getting worse and I have an overactive bladder which has me up about 3 times a night. I can survive on 5.5/6 hours sleep. Weekends I get about 9 or 10 hours and feel amazing but 7/8 is enough to feel great on.

VeronicaSawyer89 · 21/11/2023 21:01

I can cope on 6 hours but I need at least 8-9 hours to feel rested. I love sleeping in at the weekends, I usually sleep for around 12 hours on Saturdays and Sundays. 😴

I've suffered from an overactive bladder since my early twenties. I can't sleep for more than 2-3 hours without waking up to pee. I'm so used to it now though I just go straight back to sleep as soon as I get back into bed.

4 to function, 7 to feel ok, rarely manage more than that, I usually give myself 8 hours in bed though!

Nannyfannybanny · 22/11/2023 09:03

I also have long Covid, but if I attempt to get more sleep, I feel awful, like I have been drugged. I went to bed at 11.30 last night, took a long time to get off, I actually have a bladder prolapse,so a couple of bathroom visits! Was deep asleep when the puppy woke me up at 5! Normally DH is up then!

Yep same here, so annoying. Most of the time I can get back to sleep but sometimes if I wake about 5/5.30 I start thinking about stuff and then can't get back to sleep.

Six hours is fine. I can manage on five but feel shit. Less than four and I feel sick/dizzy. I definitely need less sleep than I used to (early 40s), although I think it's partly that I see sleep as a bit of a waste of time now!

Ideally I think I'd get seven-ish hours and wake up without an alarm - I always feel better if I wake up naturally.
