Just to manage my expectations of when I might regain sanity, when does the Mummy Mummy Mummy MUMMY MUMMY Mama MUMMY stage end? DS is 3 and it is non stop every single day.

I sometimes worry I'm going to accidentally scream FUCK OFF I HEARD YOU out loud

I may get to that stage this week.🫣 DS2(6) has croup. My strategy is to escape to the local shop when it gets too much.

Hopefully I won't break but I'll let you know.🥴

Straysocks · 20/11/2023 16:33

I often responded late saying I'd been looking for all the other mums he called with a perplexed look. Now I ask which one he wants and tell him it would be quicker for him just to go directly to the one he means

Lelliekelliee · 20/11/2023 16:36

It does annoy me sometimes but then I just think that I longed for these children and I love the little kid stage and I’ll miss it one day. My youngest is only 2 and get pangs of sadness that she’s my last baby. She runs into the room screaming mummy with a massive smile on her face when she gets home. You just can’t beat that!

My DD is 12. I get a hard stare, followed by an exasperated sigh and an eye roll.

She was a non-stop 'Mummy, mummy, mummy' kid at one point.

MrsMarzetti · 20/11/2023 16:42

It never stops and then you have Grandchildren. Once a mother you never know a single hours peace again.

GasDrivenNun · 20/11/2023 16:57

28 and 24 and they're still saying it.

Mummymummy89 · 20/11/2023 17:02

Omg this thread is depressing, the way people are saying it carries on for years. My dd is 3yo and she's been doing it pretty much since she turned 1.

I properly eye rolled at the grandma upthread who says we should enjoy it while it lasts. You just can't remember from 30+ years ago how annoying it is when you're trying to concentrate on something else and you're getting incessantly whined at.

I do this all too often, minus the actual swearing.

Sometimes dd whines "I want mummy!" When I'm literally right there. I'm like, "yes dd I'm literally right here. Do you want a cuddle? If so, just come cuddle me without whining about it"

But I'm 8mo pg and I just can't anymore with anything.

asterel · 20/11/2023 18:09

I was in the garden centre toy department with DD (10) one busy day during half term, and all round the shop there was a constant refrain of MUMMY MUMMY MUMMY MUMMY MUMMY and every child there all said it in exactly the same wheedling “I want a…” way and in exactly the same loud demanding tone of voice - I kept jumping every time because I kept thinking it was DD (and she was at it as well!)

Literally every adult woman there looked haunted from the constant calls of MUMMYYYYY!!!! from every direction 🤦‍♀️

Michellebops · 20/11/2023 18:12

My daughter is now 8 and I get called Bruh or yasss queen

However the neediness is still there 🙄

I know all of us Grandmothers are senile, demented or plain thick but i am pretty sure most of us remember the 80s & 90s. Eye roll at your leisure.

I know this haunted look. I live it daily.

Mine still do it. Even when Daddy is sitting right next to them and I'm upstairs

headcheffer · 20/11/2023 19:01

I started a thread like this not so long ago. It drives me mad and sometimes by the end of the day it makes me a bit shouty which is not great.

Theunamedcat · 20/11/2023 19:04

14 and still going

23 and does it via text

My 10 year old is delayed so he doesn't talk much he just gets up in my personal space and miaows

I wasn't addressing all grandmas. One specific one with an unhelpful comment who didn't read the room.

Edit - rereading my post, I made that pretty clear. No idea why you're making out I'm suggesting all grandmas are demented ffs what an overreaction

MrsMarzetti · 20/11/2023 21:28

Mummymummy89 Your casual ageism is disgraceful, do you really think we can't remember how annoying it was or how frustrating it was not to be able to pee on your own ? We went through it all, we remember exactly what it was like.

declutteringmymind · 20/11/2023 23:02

@MrsMarzetti

I do try and tell myself that I won't be the centre of their world for too long and to enjoy it but my god it's hard sometimes. It's a double edged sword but I know how empty I'll feel when they stop. I hope they never do really, just not so often.

I think you just need to read the comment I was replying to.

I don't think anything about you or all grandmas or all old people at all. I was making a comment to one particular woman only.

Please stop with your projection. It's clear that my comment does not apply to you in any way. Reread it, read the one I was replying to... or just don't.

Sillysoppysentimental · 20/11/2023 11:16

I hope it never ever ever ends.. mine are 40 and 30 and l love it. Now l get Granny .. Granny... Grannyyyyy.. l adore it.. they are only little for so long.. enjoy it.

@MrsMarzetti

This is what I was replying to. OK? Stand down

(Edit - no idea why I'm trying to defend myself to the type of person who brandishes "-ism" accusations at the drop of a hat. If you're determined to, you'll see it everywhere.)

bellsbuss · 20/11/2023 23:16

I must say FFS under my breath about 50 times a day and it's nearly always after hearing mummy or mum shouted out. I did ask my 18 year old recently why doesn't she ever shout out for her dad and she said but your my mum.

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/11/2023 23:17

It's cool @Mummymummy89, I think most of us know what you meant.Brew No idea why MrsM is getting so annoyed.

Hang on to the thought that they eventually grow and go away. I do.GrinBrew

Thank you! 💙I'm very cranky when I'm pregnant!

It's got easier as dd learns more words - yesterday she said "ugh I'm getting frustrated" instead of whining which was a bit of a revelation...

So I'm reassured that it'll get easier before they turn 18 and leave lol!!

Thank you for your supportive words 💙

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 21/11/2023 07:59

It's just attention seeking isn't it. I had twins and they would be standing beside me out yelling each other the same word.

Sometimes when they were focused on TV or something I'd stand nearby and say their name over and over in the same whine to show them how annoying it was, they did get the hint eventually, not at 3 though!

I work with 3 yr olds now and it's teacher tee-cher. Yesterday I was literally bent down in conversation with a kid 100% focused on him and he still started every sentence with a whiny teeee-cher.

You'll always be in demand as Mum or mother etc but honestly I don't think anything is like the 3rd Yr old 'mummy' demands. Its a form of torture and it does pass.
