I'm looking for some wholesome documentaries to watch on TV. Nothing about war or sports.

I find much of the TV series these days really toxic or full of violence. I've watched some great documentaries recently and I would like some more recommnedations

Secret life of plants - David Attenborough

I like Lucy Worsley's history documentaries. Obviously there is often war in history but she focuses far more on other aspects.

I watched the magic of mushrooms on iplayer recently and really enjoyed it.
There's another one called the magical world of moss which I'll get to.

The first one, if it's the one I'm thinking of, isn't really 'feel good' I don't think?

Britains Most Historic Towns - Professor Alice Roberts.

Stumbled across it last week; that particular program was about Victorian Belfast. Really interesting.

Yeah it is rather sad.

Sister squad about an all women Palestinian car rally team. Though might be a bit poignant at the moment.

Women without men about a village where the men work away leaving the women alone there. Sub Saharan Africa. It’s brilliant.

There’s one I want to see called Stray where the camera follows a stray dog in Indian and picks up the conversation of those around.

Baraka is a series of images. It’s brilliant too.

A life in a day ( I think it’s called). People around the world sent in a clip of their life on the same day. Then this was compiled into a documentary. Loved it.

There was also one, though I can’t remember the title, about an Iranian exile inFrance, an atheist, who persuaded some Iranian clerics to stay him in a house and discuss their different views. It was fascinating.

BTW ‘women without men’ was a talking heads type documentary. Interviews with five ( I tnink) different women.

Its actually Speed Sisters, not sister squad.

The Night Notre-Dame Burned - really captures the drama and bravery. Love the very dramatic priest and the fact that the fire brigade has an artist.

A house through time - bbc. It can be quite sad and covers lots of aspects of social history, but extremely interesting.

We also enjoy the Simon Reeve shows on BBC.

Once upon a time in Iraq is the best documentary I may have ever seen, but not really what you are looking for.

This Italian documentary on iplayer about truffle hunters in Northern Italy, and their dogs, is wonderful. https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m0016489/storyville-the-truffle-hunters

Metroland was on again last night

Lalgarh · 07/10/2024 10:37

Bbc4 were showing a season of 40 Minutes documentary repeats last night.

Including Heart Of the Angel, about just how grotty and Awful the station on the London underground was. And the absolute rock bottom low morale of the staff and the unsung women who worked as cleaners after the tube shuts

Love on the Spectrum.

Came up while scrolling on Netflix. Didn't think it would pan out as interesting, but my goodness what an eye opener. We have people on the spectrum in our workplace and love working with them. But I learned a whole lot more from this series. It was the Australian one and the scenes were full of real compassion between people. Way above other reality dating shows.
