Car insurance due December but may fail MOT in January

Hey, sorry, boring question.

My ford is now 13 years old. I'm due to renew my insurance next month for the next year. But I'm conscious it may not be good news at my MOT in January - it may cost more to fix it than it's worth.

Does anyone have any advice? Do I get a partial refund in January if give the car up? Should I just buy a short term insurance policy?

Thanks

BTW I wouldn't drive the car if I thought it was dangerous. I'm just conscious that last year my mechanic said my car probably only had another 1-2 years left hence me anticipating The End.

Can you pay the insurance monthly, then cancel if it fails the MOT?

Even if you pay monthly, you'll probably have signed a contract for a whole year. If so, dont just stop paying, there will be penalties!

@Badbadbunny if you read my post you'll find I said exactly what you did, that it was if there are "dangerous" fails that you cannot drive it away

Will you need to buy a new car if the old one is beyond economical repair? If so just swap the new car onto your existing policy.

Depending on your insurance company, you may be able to suspend your remaining insurance if your car fails and you've not yet got a new one.
