Just seeing if this has happened to anyone else do they do anything? I work full time on my own 2 kids and also receive UC. I get paid 4 weekly and I got paid 1 day after UC assessment period and 1 day before UC assessment period end date. This means I am entitled to 0 this month. I rely on it to keep my house. If I phone them will they do anything? It's not my fault I get paid 4 weekly I've not been paid any extra still have same bills & commitments. Its come at the worst time just before Christmas. Anyone been in this situation and do they take this into consideration or just assume you've been paid enough. It's such an archaic way to think.

I can’t help I’m afraid but see if you can post on the Martin Lewis website. There are some very knowledgeable people on UC

Good luck!

Unfortunately with 4 weekly pay it will happen once per year.

@RoonilWazlib21 it's an absolute stupid system it's not magic pay I've not been better off this month lol when I applied they wanted to know my yearly pay what's the point in asking if they do it this way.

I know it's so rubbish and a month before Christmas as well 😔

I had the same issue, the best way way to solve it in the future is pay all your bills monthly, it's a pain as your pay date keeps changing!
Can you ask for a hardship loan? Will have to pay it back but may help?
I did work it out before and if two people had the same wage but one was paid monthly and the other four weekly I'm sure that one ended up with more money, despite having salary exactly the same!
In an ideal world UC would be paid at the same frequency as wages.

@RoonilWazlib21 I know the worst possible time. Ive just been on the website it says I have to contact them to make sure I receive it next month because the system assumes you don't need it anymore when you go over the limit.

@swapcicles yes that's correct I get paid less than someone monthly however I get paid 13 times a year. I quite like 4 weekly pay (well I did until now) haha. All my bills are monthly anyway the UC just about made it pheasable as it is a pain with an ever changing pay date. Oh well not much point in phoning them up in morning I know what the answer will be.

It's because you get paid 13 times a year. They won't do anything about this - it's a known issue with being paid four weekly. They'll just advise you to budget so that you've got money to get through this period next time, and give you the dates it'll happen next year.

You won't need to tell them you still need UC though, your claim stays open until you've had six zero-pay months consecutively.

funbags3 · 19/11/2023 15:35

Why did they introduce UC in the first place? All I see are people having trouble with it.

Tryingtolivelife1 · 19/11/2023 15:38

@YouveGotAFastCar ahh ok that's good to know i don't want them thinking I've capped out I wish! I didn't even think about it especially this month it would have been great to know this ages ago. Its just the worst time to budget with 2 kids at christmas.

@funbags3 I've never had anything else i only started claiming in Feb.this is 1st issue ive had. My own fault for not checking

There seem to be a lot of people complaining about it. Makes me wonder why it was introduced.

Terfosaurus · 19/11/2023 15:52

But if you get paid 13 times you still only pay the bills 12 times? So at some point you had got paid and had no bills due?
Or am I missing something?

Having said that I do think UC should make it clear that this will happen when you start claiming so that you know.
