Disclaimer, I am not, nor ever have been, a teacher and I posted on the horrible teacher thread.
Mine are MissP. who gently and consistently helped me catch up in spelling because I was short sighted, bilingual and had moved countries. She was the teacher after my horrible teacher experience.

In high school was the 2 male english teachers who promoted a love of reading and lending of school copies of books not on the curriculum if they thought you'd like them.
Our H.E. teacher who , in breaktime, taught us how to manage a household budget and her famous "1001 cheap recipies for students" that she would tell us.
And finally the deputy head, an amazing teacher who stuck up fearlessly for her students.

I’ve had so many teachers I’ve loved. Very very few bad teachers. So here is a standout.

My primary school HT whom, when my Mum was dying, quietly took me into her office and organised all my dentist, haircut etc appointments for me. I knew that she would’ve cuddled me and let me cry if that’s what I needed but I didn’t. I was 9 and desperate for someone to sort out the practical stuff. Then when despite all the shit that was going on I got a full scholarship to my number one choice of secondary, she got the whole primary to give me a standing ovation.

My lovely memories are of teachers who cared passionately about their subjects, and who shared that enthusiasm with their pupils. Are we allowed to name names?

I had a wonderful English teacher - Peter Thompson. I remember that he read us a passage from Of Mice and Men, and played the part of Curley’s wife, leaning against the door frame. It was wonderful they way he brought it to life. Romeo and Juliet was lifted from being a dry text, and was lit up with teenage passion and excitement. He moved to the school adjacent to ours, and sadly died in an accident. There is a hall named after him now. I always hoped that his wife and children realised what an inspirational man he was to his pupils.

There were so many others. These posts tend to focus on the negative, but my memories
are mainly positive. Mr JD Bartholomew, who quietly introduced us to classical music. Mrs Coleman, who loved history and laughed a lot. Mr Wanless and his superb pop music arrangements.
