Blood Clot in Lung

Rushed into emergency with a blood clot on my lung. I'm now on warfarin for life (so they say), clexane as well and just doing the daily blood runs to the hospital.

Question is, if you've had one, how long before you could breathe properly again? I've not been able to breathe since October, numerous trips to the GP who kept telling me I wasn't keeping up with my asthma medication properly. I'd actually gone into CT on a 2 week cancer wait and they'd found this inadvertantly, so it's all been a massive shock.

Consultant said to take 6 weeks off work at least. I can't. I'm self employed. If I don't work, I don't earn. Already lost £400 in lost income so at best I've got another 3 days off.

Tried googling but there's not much info on recovery from a PE and what to do/what not to do and how long it will take.

Sorry to read this @frightenedwhatnow, how are you feeling now? That sounds like it was very frightening and if you still feel you can't breathe it might still be quite horrible.

My DH had an extensive DVT in the summer and is still slowly recovering but seems to be better than he was. People don't really seem to get that he feels worn out by the smallest thing, having been previously fit.

I agree there is not a lot of information about what to expect. We don't really know if this is what recovery is supposed to look like, or if he should be getting better faster, but I have come to the conclusion that all the HCPs are a bit vague because it can affect people very differently.

Just had to go back to the anticoag team in as I had awful stomach pains last night (on a par with childbirth!) and then horrific diarrhoea. All this complicated by the fact I have IBD! But this was different so obviously all being affected by the warfarin.

I can't even manage a walk upstairs without having to recover. It's so bloody hard. Feel like I've literally aged 30 years overnight.

I think you're right - because it's different for everyone, they don't want to give anyone false hope I guess!
