Where to take DD8 in London tomorrow?

I live in Surrey and have a rare day alone with my dd8 tomorrow so I was thinking of going into London with her but wondering how I can make it super fun and feel a bit overwhelmed with options. I was thinking of tmgoing somewhere christmassy and taking her to frozen the musical or matilda but there aren't great seats available.

If you had an 8 year old who you didn't get much time alone with and hadn't been to London much in recent years where would you go?

I live in London, you can get an Uber boat down the Thames that stops at all the piers, sea life aquarium next to the London eye, there are loads of museums that are free. There is a dinosaur park at Crystal Palace.

It really depends on what she is into and likes, have fun!

Tower Bridge is fun for kids to look through the glass floor and reasonably priced.

Skating at Somerset House.

Assuming you're going into Waterloo, you walk straight across to the South Bank. All the stalls are up and you can have Hot Chocolate (or Mulled Wine for you), Dutch pancakes etc and walk all the way to Tower Bridge. I did that with my visitor the other day. Or as PP said you can catch the Uber boat. It's great fun. Yesterday we caught it from Battersea Power Station. We caught the Northern Line from Water to Battersea and the the Uber boat. You can get all the way to the O2 on it. For a reduced children's ticket you need to pre-buy at the kiosk. duets can tap in and out as on the tube.
All the Christmas lights are on in Covent garden and Carnaby street.
I would check for theatre tickets on TodayTix app. We did that yesterday too.
And of course there are all the museums.
I love taking visitors into london this time of year. Enjoy!x

What kind of things does she like doing? The Natural History and Science museum are brilliant of course but the Tate Modern would be great for an arty girl. London Dungeons are fun and I hear the Horrible History boat tours are great too.
Or lunch at one of those pink places, Peggy Posen or something? I’ve seen friends with girls take them there.

The places I love to take the children at this time of year are:

  1. Christmas lights down Regent Street, New Bond Street and near Piccadilly.
  2. Look in windows of Fortnum and Mason, Liberties and Selfridges.
  3. Go into Hamleys (making v clear no purchases will be made).
  4. Walk along the south bank from Westminster to Tower Bridge pointing out all the sights. There is a park near the London Eye if you need some physical activity.
  5. Pop over to Covent Garden and see the street entertainers.
  6. Victoria and Albert museum - my DD loves the fashion exhibitions and having a cake in the gorgeous cafe. We also pop into the Natural History museum to see the dinosaurs.
  7. Visit the Lego store in Leicester Square.

To be honest my DD just likes wandering around, chatting and having the occasional treat like chestnuts! Especially if we are out once it's dark and the lights are on.

Peggy Porschen! They look lovely, full of flowers and pink and cakes.

Natural history/science museum.

Personally I would not try to cram too much in - that way it is fun rather than a marathon, and you only live in Surrey so you will have many chances to do London a bit at a time.

The Southbank, lunch somewhere nice, Tower Bridge, and a stroll back to Waterloo as it starts to get dark would be good. You could go into the Tate just to see the big hall and maybe one section she would like. Or Chinatown or Covent Garden (including lunch) and then a show. Something Londony but undemanding.

Covent Garden every time. Loads of entertainers and stalls to browse round, plenty of things to see and there's the London Transport Museum as well. It isn't too far to walk to a McDonalds either!

What about taking her to the Christmas shop in Harrods and letting her choose a bauble for your Christmas tree ( assuming you celebrate Christmas) which will remind her of your trip every time you put it on the tree.
