Honestly, who would begrudge their kids having pie and crumble at granny’s! Orlaith sounds joyless. And I love the idea that carrot sticks crudités are “a little harder to prepare” than steak and ale pie.

I'm sure there was a thread the other day complaining about DC being fed unhealthy food at their grandparents house, but I can't see it now. Maybe it was started by the Guardian journalist for 'inspiration'?

I admit I did smile inwardly about 'what MN would think' the time I dropped into DMs when she was doing after afterschool care for my nephews and she'd just given each of them a Greggs sausage roll and a froot shoot.

I was waiting for it to be Maccie D's every day. It's good wholesome food. That is most definitely not a pick me battle.

Grow up Orlaith, you can have ultimate revenge and have "my parents gave their grandchildren biscuits" on their grave stone. They will be forever judged.

There will a day where you will be longing to watch the kids sidle up to nanny or grandad for biccie.

I know right? Home made food, I bet the pastry is made from scratch too! Ok maybe a bit old fashioned but hardly junk!

On another thread someone asked if leaving a 13 month old for a week with granny was too long - 40 years ago I did just this for work reasons.

On going to pick him up he was sitting on the sofa with a mini bag of chocolate counters between his legs, delicately and precisely picking them out of the bag - and gave me a big chocolate smile Smile

I didn't say anything!

I call made up. It's almost always made up. Every publication has somebody producing q&a, letters, problems...

...been there, done that, hated it and found it an insult. When they pulled my features I waited for a genuine Q&A only I could have answered and waved goodbye.

I think they strike a good balance between them. It’s nice that the kids are being exposed to all different types of food.

This is a ‘different houses, different rules’ situation’.

I’m a bit of an Orlaith for meals at home- but I do not give a fuck if my child has apple crumbles and mini milks at granny’s, and frequently have been on the receiving end of frowns in coffee shops as I split a brownie with my 18 month old.

It’s interesting what her mum says about her being weight and figure conscious…the kids will pick up on that!
