Where do the older crowd (40+) go for a night out in London?

I have a friend coming over from Kent next month and we’d like to go somewhere where we could have a drink but possibly dance too, basically a pub with a dance floor or a club that's not too "clubby". The problem is, we really don't want to be fish out of water and feel ridiculous among young people.

She's coming on 8th December and I'd appreciate any tips, thanks.

If you like jazz QT under Middle Eight hotel is fantastic. If you book for the later session they have a DJ afterwards so you can dance past midnight. It’s not cheap but we love it.

And absolutely don’t go to the Piano Works in Piccadilly. We went to the Farringdon one years ago and had a great night so tried it out and it was awful. Hottest club I’ve ever been in and packed full of uni students. I spent all night dodging drinks being spilt over me.

Book yourselves into Bongo Bingo 🤣

The Social is good. If you’re in that area maybe try Jerusalem.

Haven’t been to The Cross since its reopened as I remember the old one far too well!

Agreed there is a gap in the market. The Match bars (off Regent Street and near Old Street used to be good for this).

I’ve found when I’ve been to Ronnie Scott’s upstairs either it’s good or not so good but was before Covid.

Such a gap. I don’t want to listen to jazz, or be surrounded by orange ladies in big shoes or infiltrate a student night.

I can't reply to every single one of you but thanks for all the suggestions, even if you suggested places like the Ned (why would I want to go anywhere in the City as I don't fancy the average 30s crowd with a strong coke habit, lol).

There are club nights designed for the older crowd; Haven't Stopped Dancing Yet and the Annie Mac's nights are like that. But those are very clubby for want of a better word. All of you who said gap in the market, you're absolutely right. I wish there was a place with enough places to sit and enough room to dance if we wished to do so, a healthy balance between both. And music not overly loud. Why is that so difficult?
