Adrenaline in a crisis

I appear to react really badly to adrenaline. Makes me sick.
Does anyone else?

No. And it's a good job as my adrenaline kicks in daily. That said I've been throwing up in reaction to two days full of adrenaline. But that's been nearly 48hrs solid.

Notcookie · 16/11/2023 16:19

My adrenaline levels are always high due to anxiety. It's horrible. I'm working on it.

Crooklodge · 16/11/2023 16:19

For context I have a medical condition that reacts badly to adrenaline. Had an adrenaline free injection at the dentist a couple months ago and I was amazed just how normal I felt afterwards. Hadn't realised just how bad it and me feel before until my gp said I definitely shouldn't have it out with a hospital setting.

Is it because of your job?
How does it affect you?
I basically got a scary phone call late last night and barely slept and was throwing up

For me I get a really high heart rate, feel shaky and sometimes get tremors. I basically feel like I'm about to take an exam I haven't revised for all day.

Notcookie · 16/11/2023 16:26

Also lose my appetite.

threecupsofteaminimum · 16/11/2023 16:28

Is this you, prince Andrew?

BethDuttonsTwin · 16/11/2023 16:29

Yes. I have to have local anaesthetic without adrenaline when I go to the dentist. Dentist told me I have sensitivity to is as I have been sick and shaky and fainted in the past with it. Wasn’t always like this, was fine when I was in my twenties. It seemed to come on after a long term abusive relationship where was in Fight or Flight Mode for months even years at a time. Doctor told me that the body cannot cope long term and the adrenal system/cortisol etc remains elevated and only long term calm and removal from the source of stress will aid recovery but it may never be “normal”.

Sorry, stupid joke.

Adrenalin causes the fight, flight, freeze response. The adrenalin is causing your body to think it's under immediate and mortal danger.

Puking happens when we have heightened adrenalin because our secondary bodily functions shut down to preserve blood for the brain and heart (our primary functions, used to keep us alive).

Our body considers digestion to be secondary.

Your body is responding as if under attack and there is risk of death.

This is not a commensurate response to a scary call or email, and is indicative of you suffering from a higher than average level of anxiety,.

notahincheratall · 16/11/2023 16:37

I definitely have heightened levels of anxiety but it seems to manifest purely in situations of emergency,.. specifically trips to a&e

Bit of a niche thing to put in Chat, OP!

CremeEggThief · 16/11/2023 16:38

You'd be better off asking in General Health.

notahincheratall · 16/11/2023 17:03

Oh. Just posting for traffic
