Tell me your favourite looking word

I love printed books because I love how the letters look against the grain of the paper. I’m particularly drawn to how certain words look.

Am I a weirdo?

For example I love how blue, grumble and crumble look.

Tell me I am not alone 🫣

Mine is 'icicle'. So pleasing.

Fuselage (which came up on House of Games this evening). Just rolls off the tongue

I love the word aluminum. It flows so nicely in joined up hand writing.

"minimum" is even better to write.

I wonder if it makes a difference whether you're left or right handed.

Millennium is a good one too

Haberdashery.
Old-fashioned and soothing.

It’s funny the number of people talking about handwriting. It never pleases me as much as printed words.

I have a kindle but I still always have an actual book on the go just for the pleasure of the words on the paper.

Right now I’m on the 2nd Strike novel.

I like words that conjure automatic sensations or images for myself.

Silk, Winter, Viva, Swoosh, Glisten, Slink, illuminate, Furrow.

My favourite is bed because it looks like a bed!

Cool

I love writing the word minimum in cursive or in any fancy hand. All those ups and downs flowing into and out of each other. Getting it just right is so pleasing. Fountain pen or whiteboard are the best.

GoodVibesHere · 16/11/2023 19:17

I've always liked the word 'look' because the two o's are like a pair of eyes looking.

Do thumbs up with both hands. Now curl your fists towards each other so the knuckles touch. There's your bed, left hand is the b, right hand is the d. My children taught me this when they were in infant school.

I was just coming on to say exactly this - I have recently found some old maths books of mine where in the workings pages at the back I have written aluminium repeatedly (clearly not a very focused student!)

HoHoHoliday · 16/11/2023 19:34

These are beautiful words to me, because of the combination of what they mean, how they sound and how they look.

euphoria

luminescence

paradise

puffling

serendipity

sparkle

I also love printed books! The feel of the hard cover, the feel and scent of the paper and ink, the slight weight to it, the act of turning a page and putting a bookmark in. I just love books!

notprincehamlet · 16/11/2023 19:40

hate the name Malcolm - the 2nd l makes me cringe
The l in the place name Galmpton makes me feel a bit sick!
I like how inchoate and amygdala look.

Me too for all the reasons you’ve stated.

I try to buy second hand and then donate back.
