Cat has run off and she’s post-op and meant to be kept inside….

Had the cat spayed on Monday, and she obviously has a wound with stitches, which looks to be healing well. She seems absolutely fine about it all.

Have been following vet’s instructions to keep her inside for 7 days following the op, so she’s been using litter tray etc and has been scratching at the walls and windows in frustration, poor thing. Have been letting other cat (her brother) out and in as usual.

She’s just escaped whilst I was letting the other cat back in and she’s just vanished! I’ve been out in the garden in my pjs for ages calling out.
Is this very bad?? I’m concerned I should be looking through bushes etc but I don’t think I could catch her even if I did find her.

Is it ok to leave the cat flap unlocked for her and to go to bed? Or should I be out there trying to get her back inside? TIA

I would just leave the cat flap unlocked, there’s not really much you can do if she hasn’t responded to you calling and shaking treats. Maybe keep an ear out and go and lock the flap if you hear her come in.

Yes have left cat flap unlocked. She has now appeared in the garden and she’s just glaring at me from the top of the kids’ swing set. Won’t come inside though.

Ha little madam, just leave her she’ll come in when she’s ready. I’m sure she’ll be fine.

She's playing games. Have you any cooked meat, chicken or ham maybe, to lure her in? It usually works when I want my cat in and he's pissing about 😉

She’s probably overreacting to being kept in and if she’s put two and two together about you locking her up she’ll probably be keener to come in if you go to bed! Maybe make a big song and dance about putting food out and retire gracefully. If you’re really worried, you can listen carefully and lock her up as soon as she comes in.

Update - she came back in through cat flap when it started pouring with rain. She’s fine and wound still looks good. Phew!

Glad she’s come back. We are told to aim to keep semi feral cats in for 24 hours but often people just release them and they are fine.
