The kid doesn’t die at the end does he??
I urgently need to know before I gift it to my ten year old.

No. It’s emotional but it turns out ok.

It’s also one of the best books for that age I’ve read, and I’ve read a lot!

I’ve read it. It’s very good, but if your child will be upset by possibility of the sibling dying at the end, it’s not the book to choose.

For me, it’s one of the best books about being that age, but I’m not sure that that’s quite the same thing.

Interesting point @RockyOfTheRovers - making me think now 🤔

Thanks guys. I flicked to the end and could see that the sibling survived. However I wasn’t sure if the narrator died because he was wearing wings on the cover and sees Jesus at the end! I’m hoping that is not what is intended.

Just read it and looked to see if there was a thread. I loved it and thought it reflected the life of a lot of the children I taught very well. The teacher was very much the kind of teacher most of us would want to be, though too good to be true - pretty much perfect, cool and relatable for a 10 year old boy.

I could see why it would be a teacher favourite - because we'd all want to be that one teacher who made a difference - but wasn't sure if it would be so popular with children. And wasn't sure how it would read out aloud - I thought the poetry was quite patchy and some bits would read better than others. But in fact, every teacher I've seen has said their class loved it.
