I have oacked weight on, am tired, ill a lot blag blah blah. I really need to kick myself up the bum and crack on prioritising my health and fitness.

I keep seeing weights recommended for ladies of a certain age .

Disclaimer - there is no way I can attend classes/gym. I'm either at work, or have my 2 DC. And am poor.

So I need to do this at home.

I've done a lot of body pump classes pre DC. So am OK with form etc.

What weights would I need? I have a set of hand weights but they're pretty light, I think the heaviest is 4kg.

Help please on weight/routine

If you've only done body pump in the past, your form is likely to be poor (no offense). Those classes move far too quickly to get anything right.
Best advice would be get an online coach who will do you a programme & advise what you might need. James Smith Academy is a good place for beginners & a lot cheaper than 1-2-1 online.

Oh haha oh dear. OK. I'll have a look.

I was really hoping for suggestions if how many weights, or how heavy, I'd need too.

I'm (or better: I was) more or less in the same shape/situation, so happy to share some of my experiences. I've been with a personal trainer since April and she makes me do not only weights but also a lot of core/balance exercises.
So every session will be a 10-15 minute warm up (stretches, jump rope etc.), then 15-20 minutes core: planking / side plank / crunches and balancing on one leg. Only then we move to 15-20 minutes weights. My maximum is 4 kilo per hand, so you should still be fine. We do squats with weights, deadlifts, shoulder presses, bicep curls. We also work with resistance bands. If you already have weights, see if you can pick up some cheap resistance bands as well. Lots of free training programmes online to help you with the exercises. I just saw this one for instance :

I follow Kate Rowe-Ham on Instagram and she has an online course which covers weights and other types of exercise as well as nutrition and general health advice for women in the 40+ age group. I believe she has an offer on her membership at the moment too. Its called Owning Your Menopause (OYM). I don't know how to post links to Instagram on here but her account is @ katerh_fitness.

Her classes are accessed via an app and can be done at any time. I am older than you but have really benefited from following her classes for the last 6 months. I do need to lose about a stone in weight so that is my next challenge.

@whatamidealingwith thank you!! That's all really helpful . Just checked my weights, heaviest is actually 2.7 kg, but I've found a 4kg set for sale cheap locally so will pick those up

I do have sone resistance bands also.

@LilyRose88 I'll have a look fir her on Instagram, thanks

I recently follow Flipping Fifty on Facebook where Debra Antikson specializes in helping women over 50 put their body into the thermogenic state so they burn fat and discuss about weight loss, especially during menopause. By following her strategies for achieving success, including the best menopause supplements for weight loss and tips for effective weight loss after menopause. I got the best results.
