He will be 3 at the end of February. We were in the shop and I said thank you and bye to the shopkeeper and DS started waving and said bye. I was so shocked, I had a smile on my face all the way home🤣 Before this there had been so indication that he would start saying words. I hope this is the start of him talking. I’ve been worried for so long with him being almost 3 and having no words. I don’t know the point in this thread I’m just so happy I want to share it and I hope it gives hope to any other parents going through the same!

This is brilliant! Thanks for sharing something positive. It's lightened my mood to read your post.

Pinkpinkpink15 · 15/11/2023 10:55

@cocoapple

brilliant!! It's such a relief isn't it!

my friends little boy didn't say a single word until he was 3, he said 'train' (and there was one going past the end of the garden). He's now 15 & basically hasn't stopped talking since!!

My youngest has a speech delay, he started nursery when he turned 3 and only had a handful of words. He's just turned 4 and over the last couple of months his language has just exploded, full sentences, asking questions he doesn't stop!
I was worried sick for a while but he was clearly listening all along!

Back in June we went to a family day out thing where we went on a tractor ride and then for a drink in a pub. He enjoyed it, but never said anything more about it.

The photos popped up on my phone a couple of weeks ago and I asked him about it and he remembered where we went, the toys they had and what drink he and his brother had in the pub. He’d remembered it all, he just didn’t have the speech to talk about it at the time!

We’re now working on things like telling us what he’s done at preschool that day and the names of the other children. I still don’t think his speech is the same of some of his peers, but the progress he’s made has given me hope that he’ll continue to catch up.

His birthday is at the end of August, so we’ve delayed his Reception school start until next year under the summer born guidance. I’m so glad we’ve done this as it’s giving him an extra year of preschool.

Oh & we had to take my little brother to speach therapy when he was about 2.

basically it was my fault! Poor kid didn't need to speak because he'd just look at something & id speak for him! He was over loved!! 😂😂

Tiredalwaystired · 15/11/2023 11:35

Amazing! So pleased for you.

My nephew was very speech delayed (nothing til three and a half) but there’s no stopping him now. In fact he is just a running commentary on life these days. We almost miss the silence 😂 (only joking!)

Figment1982 · 15/11/2023 11:42

Really happy for you OP.. reminds me of my DD. We were referred to the SALT team when she still had no words at 2. We had an initial video conference where she didn't say anything, and therefore got booked in for an in-person appointment.

At that appointment my up to then silent DD suddenly pronounced every single thing that the therapist pointed at: 'ball, cat, dog, clock, car'

🙄🙄🙄 😂

Pumpy001 · 15/11/2023 20:21

Your story has made my day OP, I'm awaiting for that very day with a 25mth dd

cocoapple · 16/11/2023 20:38

Sorry guys, only just managed to get a minute to myself to come back on here🤣

Thank you so much for all the lovely comments☺️ It’s lovely to hear everyone else’s positive stories and to those who are still waiting I’m sure your dc will get there! I’m happy it’s given some of you hope.

We have a goldfish and he was stood at the bowl earlier looking at it and he kept making an ‘f’ sound. I’d like to think he was trying to say fish!

That’s lovely

lilsupersparks · 28/11/2023 17:23

Too cute 🥰

I remember the day my little girl started bearing weight on her legs - she was sitting in the bottom step and half standing for about a second before sitting down.

she didn’t walk until she was two and this was maybe a month before. I felt so so so proud ❤️

she had a twin brother too who was always running around the place but there was nothing like the relief and pride I felt for that little moment ❤️

Awww! Adorable!

Adarajames · 29/11/2023 16:41

Aww that’s so sweet!

you say your older one is a chatter box? As someone above says, maybe he just doesn’t feel the need to talk a his older brother does enough for both of them? 😆

my younger brother was late talking and never did crawl, just got up and walked one day; with 3 older sisters he just hadn’t needed either skills as we did everything before he needed to ask!

cocoapple · 04/01/2024 19:13

Another cute update (hopefully if anyone comes across this thread in future it gives some hope)
He’s made so much progress since I last posted, I’m so proud of him😊 He can say “dog” then goes “woof woof” He says “hop” when Peter rabbit comes on, the other day he covered his eyes with his hands and said “boo” 😍

Then this morning on the way to take DS1 to school he pointed at a stick on the floor and said “stick” He loves holding sticks so every time I’ve given him one to hold I say “this is a stick” He normally looks at me like 😐 so I’m left thinking he does not have a clue what I’m on about🤣 just shows they really do take things in🥰

As I said I hope this thread gives anyone who may be going through the same with their DC some hope!

Awww, how lovely. I'm sitting here wearing a great big grin hearing about it.

cocoapple · 19/01/2024 14:17

Children are amazing🤣 a few new little words from him here and there, still no proper sentences but he surprised me this morning by singing the alphabet🙌🏻🤣

cocoapple · 01/04/2024 09:33

Well this morning he woke up, came in our bedroom and pointed to me and his dad and said mummy daddy😢 Can’t explain how happy and proud I am of him.

Updating to hopefully give anyone in my position hope as I genuinely never thought I’d hear those words from him❤️

Meadowbird · 01/04/2024 09:37

Ah, that’s lovely! He’s got the most important words now!

Anxiousmum2224 · 27/06/2024 22:38

Amazing. My son is 2 years 1 month and l he says mum dad and no and that's it. The health visitor has me really worried about ASD but he's now been diagnosed with glue ear and he's had grommets for 2 weeks and I'm praying he will start talking soon. It breaks my heart when I see his cousin only 8 months older and speaking in full sentences. I just want him to be able to communicate and get on in life. Thanks for the post. X

DustyMaiden · 27/06/2024 22:44

The first thing my DD said at 2.5 yrs was I want a drink and I want it now.
