?? I tend to use mine for spices but have enough now. What else could they be used for?

I just recycle them in the glass recycling. I used to keep them and store leftovers in them if you did want to keep them particularly.

TheNoodlesIncident · 14/11/2023 11:53

Different kinds of screws and nails, stored out in the shed. That's about it really.

Otherwise they go in recycling.

Ifailed · 14/11/2023 11:54

Jam, marmalade and freezing home-made curry sauces etc.

susiedaisy1912 · 14/11/2023 11:54

I recycle them, occasionally I get a nice looking one that I think I should use for something creative or quirky but then I get bored of it and recycle it as well.

Aturtleatemysandwich · 14/11/2023 11:56

In late summer/early autumn I collect until I have a couple of dozen then offer them on the village Facebook page. They always get taken, usually by people who like making jams and chutneys - there’s often people asking if anyone has any.

Rest of the year they go in the recycling bin.

Fleetingname · 14/11/2023 11:58

My dad used to screw the lids to the underside of his workshop shelves and keep screws etc in them.
I mostly recycle mine, but will occasionally pretty them up to use for herbal teabags or pens or vases.
People still keep giving us mugs though, so I'm more likely to use those to keep things in that don't need a lid if I can't bring myself to give them away (random, sorry)

HipHouse · 14/11/2023 12:02

Hmm, they generally sit in the kitchen cupboard for a while.

Otherwise, I store bay leaves, garlic and things like nuts and seeds in them. Sometimes homemade pasta sauces.
The small GU pudding ones, I love those ones, I use them to mix sauces/dressings, put tomato sauce in, serve olives in them etc. They also make great tea light holders.

Hibernatalie · 14/11/2023 12:02

Overnight oats which I take to work for breakfast

ichundich · 14/11/2023 12:03

Leftovers, sugar, salt, beans, lentils, rice, elastic bands, coins

TerrysChocolateOrange · 14/11/2023 12:08

I only buy Bon Maman jam, they are nice hexagonal jars. I use them with nightlights in them in the fireplaces at Christmas.I buy Bonne Maman for this reason.

I keep a selection of the nicer ones for our homemade chutneys, marmalades and such.

Also keep one big one to store used oil in so I can filter and reuse once or twice.

I keep one nicely shaped one as a dressing shaker.

I've got one for old batteries and when it's full I bring to the collection point at the supermarket.

I've also got one to put the money out for our weekly eggs delivery.

Have repurposed some as spice holders.

Other than that they get recycled. But we don't use many jars (other than condiments) as we pretty much cook entirely from scratch, so it's not like we have loads to get rid of.

You could make some cute little Christmas lanterns! Best to use LED tea lights though as it might not be fire safe.

I make jams, marmalades, chutneys, etc all summer and just reuse most jars with new lids.
Currently store cupboard has blackberry & apple, red gooseberry, plum, greengage and apricot jams. Blackberry, red tomato (3 different types) tomato & chilli (current favourite), tomato & pepper, green tomato, beetroot, beetroot & orange chutneys. I have orange curd in the fridge, and oranges ready to make https://www.bbcgoodfood.com/user/4531666/recipe/christmas-spiced-marmalade & https://www.bakingmad.com/recipes/orange-and-whisky-marmalade for presents, lemon and lime marmalade, and Quince Jelly.

I rarely buy anything in jars only honey, and I do have people give me jars because I tend to give them full ones.

Christmas-Spiced Marmalade | BBC Good Food

Tangy, zesty citrus fruit with cinnamon, cloves, star anise and cardamom.

I rinse them out and pass them on to a friend who makes jam, chutney, pickles etc and sells them to aid a local charity etc. If she has enough, then I just put them in the recycling with other glass.

purplecorkheart · 14/11/2023 12:29

I keep the odd one to hold pens, nails, elastic bands etc. I have a box in garage for the rest. There are regularly people on our local noticeboards looking for jam jars for different reasons. Students from one of the local schools were looking for 20 this week from some kind of Home Ec project so they have taken them.

NotFastButFurious · 14/11/2023 12:29

I hardly have any, don't buy jars of sauce and it takes me forever to get through a jar of jam so they just go in the recycling! I have a couple of bon maman ones that I saved because they're nice jars and use those for seeds because the because the bags have a tendency to split once open.
If you've got lots it might be worth sticking them on freecycle or a local facebook page before you recycle them?

MonumentalLentil · 14/11/2023 12:38

Jam and penaut butter sized jars I put on Freecycle, someone always wants clean jars for jam making and one person took them for honey.

Random sizes I use for rooting plants.

Pasta sauce jars are not much use with the stained lids so if I don't use them for plants I recycle them.

Unusual shapes and sizes I keep for storage, and will change the lids if I can find one that I like that fits.

Sometimes for soaking paintbrushes.

AbbeyGailsParty · 14/11/2023 12:40

Home made jam and chutney.
Freecycle to local people for jam and chutney making.
3/4 fill with home made curry sauce, pasta sauce , soup and freeze.

SM4713 · 14/11/2023 12:41

My grandfather used to glue the lids to the underside of a shelf in his shed for screws etc.

This year I made lots of jams and chutneys with jars that have a sealable, screw lid. I also keep a clean, empty one for shaking up dressings.
I also use them for buttons, rubber bands, pens, paper clips etc.

For large coffee jars that just have a plastic lid, I put them on freecycle or olio. If no one wants them, I recycle them.

I've seen the coffee jars used as table centres, with small posies in, decorated and filled with sweets as a Christmas gift. I also trimmed my monstera plant a few months ago and each off cut sat in a large coffee jar I used as vases. They have all sprouted and been planted out into regular pots now.

Im making a lot of soup at the moment and jars are perfect for single portions. I also keep sourdough starter in them so need a clean one every day.

CrushingOnRubies · 14/11/2023 12:55

If they're small unique / pretty then I keep them to put small stationery items like draw pins and paper clips etc

Dad uses them for screws and nails in the shed

PosyPrettyToes · 14/11/2023 13:59

We don’t have lots as I tend to make most things from scratch. Just olives and jam really, and we don’t eat much jam. A neighbour keeps bees so we tend to give her any suitable sized ones for the honey.
