I need inspiration. What are the best and worst gifts you / your dc have received?
My dc haven't been Christened so it's all new to me, we attend a baptist church.

My little one received lots of lovely gifts but I think the ones that I like the most and she will probably keep are the personalised ones.
She was given a personalised wooden stool with her name and christening date. She also received a really lovely personalised nursery rhyme book. She was gifted a very small silver bracelet with her name and christening date on it.

I guess it does ds on how close you are to the recipient/ parent and how much you’d like to spend.
I spent £30 on a personalised nursery rhyme book for my friends child and then added a little toy too.

Our next door neighbours at the time gave a hand-painted clock they’d bought at a craft fair with DS’s name and date of baptism on it. I still have it. Another neighbour gave a hip flask, to be kept until DS was 18! Miraculously, I managed to not only put it in a safe place but was able to find it again when he turned 18! Another couple of presents DS got a lot of use out of as a child were a wee sit on tractor (I’m from farming family) and a Fisher Price CD player.

Haha I misread that as a wee sit on a tractor 😂 thought it was a bit underwhelming

Someone gifted our child a book 6 month book subscription which was great! A new book every month through the post.

Someone got a personalised money box with each type of coin in it from the year of DCs birth. I thought that was very thoughtful.

Motheranddaughtertotwo · 13/11/2023 21:42

The worst were the generic christening gifts that you get in card shops- a silver box for babies first tooth/hair.

The best were cute outfits, shoes, jewellery. Anything practical (won’t end up at the charity shop). Even toys. Anything that my children would actually get use out of.

gotomomo · 13/11/2023 21:44

We said no gifts, we bought dd a cross and she was gifted a bible from church

rollerblind · 13/11/2023 21:47

My daughter was given a really pretty Vera Wang silver trinket box. Unlike a "my first tooth" box, its timeless.

My son was given lots of beautiful personalised pictures in frames (a sampler etc) but he's now 9 and all "baby stuff" (like those and piggy banks) etc has been banished to the cupboard never to be seen again...

It's a toughie. A silver frame is always nice.

Best - clothes and books (things that were used regularly)
Worst - jewellery and ornaments (DD was too small to wear a necklace, and when she was big enough the necklace was too small, ornaments need dusting)

Springingintosummer · 13/11/2023 21:52

A lovely silver photo frame with a character on it linked to their name as most appreciated.
Also, a class of children’s book, inscribed by the relative.

Best gift
Premium bonds
Silver plated money box

JuliansTrousers · 13/11/2023 22:07

Other gifts that were used and appreciated,
Playmobil Noah's Ark,
Lots of lovely books,
Matching raincoat, umbrella and wellies in toddler size,
Money for their future.

My husband got some silver cufflinks with his initials engraved on when he was christened and wore them on our wedding day.
My son received a silver childs cutlery set which his 1st child is now using.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 13/11/2023 22:19

My DD was 7 months and we asked for books. We got a range including lovely Winnie the Poo set, flap and touch books and Mr Men books. They already get a lot of use and will last year's.

My mother got her a charm bracelet to build up over the years.

Personalised stuff is lovely too.

As you'll know, you'll have received a million items of clothing and toys already so maybe guide attendees a bit.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 13/11/2023 22:19

I can't say there were any worst gifts btw! Even the bubble machine has its place!

The temperature egg (glo egg?).
I think they do a clock aswell.

A nightlight projector that was Winnie the poo themed.

Also got some lovely looking silver-plated items however they tarnished badly after a couple of years in a cupboard and had to be thrown away.
