What sweet things does your DH do, that show he loves you?

Would love to hear what yours do, that make you feel loved?

Mine buys my favourite chocolate and hides it round the house so I find it when I'm doing chores. Makes me smile every time.

He's learning to play piano and picks songs he knows I love, to learn, so that I enjoy listening while he practices.

You don’t sound smug - I’m happy for you.

My DH is similarly lovely. This is a sad story, but when my Dad was dying, my brother and I stayed at the hospice with him overnight. My Mum had spent most of the day with him but needed to go home as she too was very ill with cancer and needed rest. My OH went with her and spent the night at her house to look after her. In the morning, I phoned to tell Mum that Dad had died and my dear husband literally caught her. 😭❤️ I was so lost in a fog of trauma and grief that I didn’t really think about that until some time later and thought what a wonderful man he was to support her in that toughest moment of her life. I can’t think of anyone else I’d have wanted or trusted to do that.

Writes and performs an original song or poem (in a variety of forms and styles) every birthday and valentines day.
Does all the laundry.
Still passionate about me after 33 years together.
Stops what he is doing periodically to tell me he loves me.
Laughs at my jokes.
Does the dishes.
Once drove from New York to Boston—approx five hours—to pick me up at the airport and drive me to my parents house which was a quick cab ride away so really didn’t need picking up.

It's so refreshing to hear that not all men are selfish arseholes as that's the normal theme on MN. Sounds like you also have a keeper 😊

This makes me sad because mine does nothing like this ☹️. I’m happy for the rest of you though!

You took the words out of my mouth

OK, so this thread has made a few women feel a bit shit.

I just wanted to say that everyone's relationship is different, and every marriage is different. Whilst my DH tickles my head every night, and is very good at some other things, he certainly is not perfect, and our marriage has been through the wringer a few times over the years.

I know lots of men who are very demonstrative with their affections, and spoil their wives rotten, but I wouldn't swap with them. I know one who is very complimentary, buys his wife loads of presents and looks great from the outside, but he's got so many red flags it's untrue.

It's good to celebrate their good points. But don't think that you've got a dud pup. Frankly I wouldn't swap my DH who is crap at compliments and presents for one that is like Santa, but lacks sense.

I’m so sorry to those who’ve posted who can’t relate to this 😕

Mine makes me tea. Loads of tea, all day long. This is the ultimate for me as I love tea so much.

He does a lot of the taxiing of the kids to and from various activities, especially the evening winter ones which are my least favourite.

He buys me chocolate treats every Friday.

When I am doubting myself over work stuff he tells me how great I am at my job and reminds me of past achievements.

He is an excellent present-chooser. He never asks me for a list for Xmas or Birthday because he has already compiled a list during the year when I’ve mentioned things or he’s seen me looking at something.

The thing that probably touches me the most is that he honours the memory of my parents. I lost them ten years ago when I was in my 30s and DH remembers their birthdays and the anniversaries of their deaths. A few days before one of these dates he’ll often say something like ‘Would you like to go to the burial ground at the weekend? We could have a nice walk before and go for lunch afterwards’. I just love that he knows and sees the importance.

That's so touching

Pays the mortgage and bills. I know that's massive to some but that is all he "does for me" 😥

GoingOffOnATangent · 14/11/2023 07:32

@MusicAndPassionWereAlwaysTheFashion agree. A relationship that fits you whatever it looks like to anyone else is the best of all, and no one is perfect. We've had our fair share of issues too, though the humour has helped us come through.

It's the little things, bringing me a cup of tea when he's working from home, picking me up a sweet treat when he knows I've had a rough day, makes me lunch when it's my working day and always makes me a tea to go so I can have it on the way to work. He let's me tuck my cold feet under his, holds my hand when we fall asleep. He listens and remembers.

My dad has been having a tough time health wise at the moment and he rings him to check up on him because he loves him too. It's a simple thing but him taking the time to do so makes my heart happy. Our toddler and I were ill this weekend and he took care of all of our meals and bought them to me whilst looking after our older two as well. He remembers the day we got engaged whilst I forget and buys me purple flowers because I wore a purple outfit that day.

When I was pregnant I had to wear compression stocking and he would take them on and off for me, put my shoes on for me because I couldn't reach them. He never missed an appointment even with our third baby. When I went part time after having our eldest he applied for flexible working so he could do all nursery pick ups and drop offs, when I went back after dc3 he compressed his hours so she wouldn't need to go to nursery. He champions me.

It's sad that this has made some people unhappy, in no way is it meant to be smug at all. Just nice to hear some positivity and also a way to glean ideas of nice little things I can do for DH.

Keeping it real- out marriage isn't perfect (is any?) and he can drive me up the wall (and I him, I would guess) but I do appreciate the little things he does for me.

I've found it a great thread. Heart warming actually and tbh I needed to read these that love does exist.

BrassicaBabe · 14/11/2023 11:09

My DH works a heap more hours than me. He pretty much does zero around the house and only a tiny amount of "mental load".

BUT.. he gets me. I have adhd and a massive introvert. He gets me and the weaknesses that these two give me. (DH is massively sociable).

And for balance, we've been married for 14 years and I feel more heard and understood than at any point earlier in our relationship. This must bode well for the long term!

ivfbabymomma1 · 14/11/2023 22:57

My DH gives me a foot rub every night without me asking! He hasn't got a foot fetish lol but I'm on my feet all day at work

twinkz · 14/11/2023 23:46

Mine does our online supermarket shopping every week without fail, even when he's travelling for work. He was doing the Tesco shopping from his hotel room in Mexico City last week. I appreciate that.
