What to know before starting nursery?

DD1 starts nursery in January when she turns 3. She’s never been in any kind of childcare before.

She is excited about it and has had a couple of stay and play sessions so I have no concerns about leaving her. She’s a confident and independent child.

She is potty trained and can dress and undress herself, but is there anything else she needs to know or be able to do before she goes?

For my part I know about labelling clothes, having spares, appropriate outerwear etc.

Just want to make sure we’re both as prepared as can be!

Given she is 3 this may not be relevant but most children I know of (ranging from 10mo - 2.5yo) have had an issue (tears) a few days in when they realise you’re actually leaving them all day. But it’s short lived.

I would recommend a nursery wardrobe if you like her clothes. Because of mud, food, paint, felt tip etc. Our nursery do have aprons but they don’t catch it all.

Also, she’ll get sick a lot.

I'm in the same boat (DD nearly 3 starting preschool nursery in Jan). From chatting to my friend whose little one is there already, one thing I hadn't realised which may or may not be relevant for you is how independent they'd like them to be with potty training - able to go in a cubicle, lock door and manage clothing and wiping including after a poo unaided and wash hands unsupervised... My DD is solidly potty trained in terms of not really having accidents but not a chance is she going to manage wiping and hand washing independently so I'm practicing like crazy here!
