Please could someone advise me what sort of time frame I might expect a Scottish estate to be settled ? My uncle died in July and, other than a couple of cash gifts, he has left the remainder of his estate to DD.
DD needs a new flute and we have said she can buy this with her legacy. Dd is 13 but has had no communication at all from the solicitors in relation to her legacy. We only know she is a beneficiary because Uncles friend abd executor sent a copy of the will. My dad is NOK but also hasn't had any communications whatsoever about what should be done with the ashes. There is a house to be sold so appreciate this may take a while.
I don't know what I should expect to happen.

He also may or may not have had one of those lifetime mortgages on the house so we are well aware that DD may end up with absolutely nothing ! We are hoping she will at least end up with enough to buy the flute she needs to move up to.

No idea but DPs dad died in June and we're still stuck waiting for info... everything seems to take forever. We're not affected really as everything will going to his mum but she would really like everything to be finalised.

Took an absolute age here in east Scotland in 2018. Mostly because the will had been made in England so the sheriff insisted on an addendum to the will by a solicitor qualified in both English and Scottish law, even though the whole estate was coming to me as next of kin and only surviving relative. Probate finally granted in 2020, whereupon covid got involved and delayed everything even further.

Is that in Scotland @Mmmkaay ? We are in England and from the little I do know I know the systems are different

Sorry, yes - we're in England but DP is Scottish.

my mother died in December last year and myself and my brothers received interim payments from the lawyer in the last few days.
But our situation was complicated by the fact that neither of my parents left a will, and despite my dad dying several years ago the house was still in both their names, so there was a fair bit of legal paperwork. but we're nearly sorted now

I’m not a solicitor but work as an estate agent and have been involved in a lot of executory cases, plus had to attend to my own mums a few years ago.

Presumably you aren’t executors? Just your DD is a beneficiary of the estate. If that’s the case my understanding is that this is pretty normal, estates can take time to wrap up and then they need to go to the courts for confirmation. I’m not sure if you will have contact from the solicitors before or after confirmation but it will probably just be a letter saying DD has received X amount and info on how it will be paid.
