Feeling really hot at night even in the cold

Hi all

Does anybody else really suffer with getting too hot at night? It's not fair on dh for me to put the fan on but honestly that's the only way I get to sleep

I don't sleep with clothes on, window in the bedroom is always open even in the winter, I use cool mats for my feet which are mainly the issue - for some reason 15 mins after getting into bed my feet start getting really hot. Can anyone advise what they do if they suffer with the same problem?

Dh doesn't mind the window open usually for fresh air but now he's started to ask for it to be closed. I closed it last night but got no sleep as it got really stuffy (or for me it felt stuffy) and my body was all burning up.

Of course i'd be unreasonable if I had the fan on during this time of year lol, but I don't know what to do :( could it be a deficiency of some sort?

Just to add during the day i'm always cold. Cold hands/feet. It's only when I lay down and start to fall asleep that I get really hot :/

Keep your feet out from under the duvet.

Thyroid/diabetes/menopause?

Have you got one of those memory foam mattresses? The sales assistant in the bed shop told me to avoid them when I mentioned was suffering from hot flushes at night.

I'm cold durping the day and hot at night, started with menopause but never went away.
This is how I manage it.
Two single duvets. Heavy one for DH and a thin one all year round for me.
Plus a cotton sheet. This because I tend the wrap the bedding round my head and wake up boiling. I use the sheet for shoulders upwards and keep the duvet lower down.
I used a fan all year round during menopause, don't see why that's unreasonable as long as it points at you.

Thank you all! I am 29 and pregnant (though these issues started years ago and not related to pregnancy) so not menopause but will definitely get thyroid checked!

Thank you for the advice regarding the mattress and ways to keep cooler. 2 single duvets is a good idea, the one we use is abit too warm for me and we share it so will go get a thin one for myself!

My husband gets either very warm feet in bed, noticeably hotter than the rest of him, or very very cold feet. Like ice. Never just normal. It's an unexplained phenomenon. I second the two different duvet suggestions upthread.

I have a cooling blanket which I mainly use on its own, although I do have a 3.5tog duvet which I pull over me if I need it. When I am really struggling with the heat I make sure the bedroom is cold before I go to bed (I have a decent portable air conditioner). In the summer especially I have a frozen hot water bottle to keep by my feet which helps keep the air cool too. I only put a little bit of water in it before I put it in the freezer but it does work.

This is the cooling blanket

Ahh thank you @MagentaRocks I never really thought of using a cooling blanket. I will check the one you linked out! Will also place a frozen water bottle at the foot of my bed, that should keep me cool till i fall asleep for the night. Thank you for the suggestions all! X

I am 29 and pregnant
I had horrendous night sweats for six months post partum after both DC. None before or after until menopause. Hormones definitely a factor.

I bought a really light summer duvet from Dunelm, Op, which works a treat. Dh really feels the cold, so we have to have separate duvets
