When did you last have a pay rise in the private sector?

I have been on the same hourly rate since 2017 and wondered how normal this was within the private sector. Minimum wage creeps ever closer to what I'm earning and I think things will only change when it's forced by NMW becoming more than I get paid. I work in accounts and have 2 jobs paying the same hourly rate. The second job I started in 2021.

I got 5%, backdated to my start date, which was only a few months earlier.

I used to find in the private sector salary and bonus were related to hitting KPIs as part of my professional development. Large rises though tend to happen when you move to other jobs and can lay out your salary requirements as part of the recruitment process.

Public sector I'm set KPIs but it has no impact on my salary and just feels like they try and squeeze more out of you for less. No point moving jobs unless I go back to the private sector - salaries are fixed, so it'll be the same money in a new environment.

Same. In public sector we're meant to be grateful for crumbs from the table. Watching talk shows about whether drs should get a payrise the so called journalists bang on about how noone in the private sectors get payrises..!! Clearly not the case

Typically twice a year where I am - they do a global increase, but we also move up an increment in our band every year (or get promoted to the next band).

I got a 9% rise this summer after being offered a company car. Last year I had a 30% rise. This is extremely unusual though. Since I started, I've had annual rises of around 4%. My salary was very low to start with and is now in line with the average for my role.

I'm in the public sector (local govt). Can't recall when we last had a pay increase. I mean, we might well have had one... but if we did it couldn't have been anything memorable.

6.5% in July.

spookehtooth · 11/11/2023 18:23

7.5% plus bonus, and a one off "cost of living" payment of £1k. Everyone of us earns £50k+ People in my team complained it wasn't enough.

On that cost of living payment, possibly the pay rise too I can't remember for sure, I put my neck out to comment on the complaining. Not everyone is privileged enough to have their employer do that.

Is there anything blocking or making it difficult to look for a different job? Going without a pay rise that long is incredibly unfair. Have you googled for info on the directors and senior management pay rises in this period?

Cotswoldbee · 11/11/2023 18:23

Private sector until I retired earlier this year and we always got a pay rise.
One year it a non-consolidated "bonus" but that caused a rumpus so they went back to a proper annual pay rise.

OhamIreally · 12/11/2023 10:23

I got a 1.5% pay rise in January. At the time I was worried about redundancy so was grateful for anything but now with the COL I can see my pay has gone down a lot in real terms so I asked my boss to look at my pay and he promised to.
I know they are setting the budget now so if I get less than 5% I will be very unhappy.
