Is Aldi ski wear any good!

Sorry if this sounds tone deaf in the current climate.

DS (12) is going on a school ski trip. He hasn’t skied before and may not go again another year which is why I don’t want to spend £££ on expensive ski wear.

I saw that Aldi have their ski wear in stock this weekend. Has anyone used it before and is it durable enough?

How does it compare to Mountain Warehouse?

@NuttyYouSayHmmmmmn Our local school also has an upcoming ski trip and the parents of children attending have been informed about the Aldi sale and told it’s an ideal opportunity to get their stuff. Decathlon was also suggested for reasonable prices.

For our first family ski trip we got virtually everything from Aldi and it was all great. I still use the jacket and trousers several years later.

rookiemere · 11/11/2023 08:20

We bought DS some ski trousers for a trip and they were fine. Not sophisticated material so a bit heavier than more expensive brands and I'm not sure they would work if it was seriously minus temperatures, but for the conditions they will encounter in a school ski trip - absolutely fine. We actually passed them on to a friends DS who used them for a further trip away.

Trespass also has some cheap options.

I have the aldi fleece from the ski wear range and I got hot in it skiing!
I don't have any of the other things though but the kids waterproof stuff is always great.

Yes! I have Aldi salopettes, I've worn them for about 4 skiing holiday and they'll be going to France this year - really good! Think they were about £16

Penny31 · 11/11/2023 09:04

I get it every year for my daughter going skiing! No complaints here!

NuttyYouSayHmmmmmn · 11/11/2023 09:12

Thank you for your replies. I’ll be happy if they last the week plus one day.

They are ideal for one week of skiing. DD was in Aldi/Decathlon for her school trip

I've used Lidl Crane before and all fine for me and the kids. Now I buy off Vinted for them. So much of it has only been used for a week! Quality brand names at a fraction of the price.

I've also bought off eBay too. A few years ago I was the only person bidding on a Decathlon jacket for my eldest and got it for £3.50!! Immaculate condition.

Start looking now before ski season kicks off properly!

Get it! I have a Burton gore tex jacket but I have a pair of aldi brand pants. They have bib and brace and are worth well above what you pay. I've never owned an aldi parka but the pants have never let me down. I had them for a good 8 years. Just bought a new pair. These ones have zips where you put your boots on!! Anything over 10000mm waterproof and 10000mm breathability rating in my experience does the job in my opinion. The outer material takes on a bit of water in the rain which adds a bit of weight but not much. Trust me, Aldi gear is gold!
