Holding a children's birthday party , a lot of the children are Muslim - I don't want to put things in the party bags that they cannot have - I know things like haribo are not allowed, so I've bought a pack of chupachups lollipops - but now I'm seeing mixed answers online.
Please somebody with more experience than me let me know.
Thanks :)

Their own websites says not op. Sorry.

Queucumber · 10/11/2023 17:18

You could look for for vegan friendly flavours as that info is easier to find.

NannyR · 10/11/2023 17:21

The strawberry haribos are veggie/vegan so I presume they would also be halal. The world foods aisle at Tescos and Morrisons usually has a good selection of halal sweets.

There's plenty of vegan lollipops, I always buy birthday lollipops for school from Poundland. I don't think it really matters if the meat gelatin in it comes from halal beef, I think it just needs to be vegan.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/11/2023 17:26

I'm sure I've seen Halal Haribo.

TeddyBeans · 10/11/2023 17:26

Maltesers are halal if you wanted an alternative

AgaMM · 10/11/2023 17:28

Haribo bears are halal, as are the strawbs. Basically anything that doesn’t have gelatine.

idontlikealdi · 10/11/2023 17:29

Lots of the Colin and Percy m and s sweets are halal / vegan

Cheeesus · 10/11/2023 17:31

Looking at the ingredients I can’t see why they aren’t. Anyone know?

Elieza · 10/11/2023 17:35

Halal isn’t just about ingredients, it’s also about the way the animals are slaughtered.

Queucumber · 10/11/2023 17:36

The colouring that comes from beetles that can be described as cochineal, carmine, carminic acid, Natural Red 4, or E120. Gelatin.

The world foods aisle in Sainsburys will be your friend! You can get halal sweets there. Alternatively chocolate should be okay.

Yes, but if you don’t have that information you can opt for vegan friendly sweets because you know there aren’t any animal ingredients.

Swizzels fruity pops are halal. Here's a page of all the halal Swizzels sweets:

I know things like haribo are not allowed

Why don't you just Google and then you'd know you can buy halal Haribo? Confused

Cheeesus · 10/11/2023 17:48

The assortment has the following ingredients which look fine?

Are Chupa Chups lollipops halal?
timeforacoffeebreak · 10/11/2023 17:59

@TheresaCrowd thank you for the snide remark.
I am well aware that there are some haribo that are okay such as the strawbs- but I cannot find these in small packets near me.
I was referring to the generic party bag haribo you mostly get, I.e. starmix, tangfastics.
I wanted advice from those who are more sure than I am. As there are some things that some people will say are halal, but actually are not.

It depends on the flavour. Plenty of them are suitable to eat.
There's a list of which flavours are halal/haram here.

That's very helpful, thank you. The ones I have are the mini flavours mix. So I think they're all good 👍🏼

Marks and Spencer's have a range of gelatin free sweets.

Haribo also have a range gelatin free sweets. I got some in b&m for one of ds parties

Sceptre86 · 10/11/2023 18:36

If in doubt go for vegan sweets. Can I just say that it's nice you are thinking about this. Half the sweets my kids receive in their party bags they can't eat.

HiThereSupermouse · 10/11/2023 23:09

Haribo is halal.

PassMeTheCookies · 10/11/2023 23:46

Skittles are Vegan so will be halal friendly and come in small bags. Small bags of Oreos are an option, too. Also caters for any dairy free children.
