Getting a SpaSeekers voucher was the worst birthday present ever!

Hey

Just thought I would share my experience with you in case any of you are thinking of getting someone a SpaSeekers voucher for Christmas.

It was by far the LEAST relaxing experience of my life.

I got the £100 voucher for my 40th birthday. I have to wait 3 weeks to redeem it. I use the SpaSeekers site to book a spa. The email tells me to confirm with the spa directly. I contact the spa and they have no record of my booking and don't offer the treatment in question. It takes me HOURS of emails and calls to SpaSeekers to get them to issue me with a fresh voucher code so I can book something else. The same thing happens again with a different spa. I complain to SpaSeekers and they book me in directly with a third spa.

I get there on the day and they ask for my voucher code multiple times. I have a funny feeling about it.

A month later the spa emails me to advise there was a problem with the SpaSeekers voucher but not to worry, they have my credit card details on file (I have been to the hotel before where the spa is based) and so they have just charge the full amount to my credit card.

I phone SpaSeekers to complain and they basically say that they don't care, it's between me and the spa. But my voucher has been used so I can't use it again.

So as a 40th birthday treat, I paid TWICE for a massage.

So anyway, you have been warned!

NC for this as I have moaned to a lot of people in real life about it!

I just googled them. Their TrustPilot reviews are very odd (in terms of the spread of scores) and the other review sites I found are overwhelmingly negative.

LookMaggie · 10/11/2023 13:40

@Queucumber thanks. I've left them a Google review as well as a Trust Pilot review.

It was actually so bad that I told my cousin who bought me the voucher. I knew she would rather know so that she doesn't buy for anyone again in the future.

Just giving this a cheeky bump for anyone contemplating buying a SpaSeekers voucher for some poor sod's Christmas present!

Frankly, I'd rather receive an STI!

That's awful! Can you try claiming it back through your credit card company or something?!

LIZS · 01/12/2023 19:46

Complain to the hotel as you have not allowed them to retain your cc details fir this purpose.

BalletBob · 01/12/2023 19:50

I'd definitely complain to the hotel and try a credit card chargeback. You did not authorise them to take the payment and it sounds like you maybe didn't have a contract with the hotel at any rate; you're contract was presumably with Spa Seekers. What a complete shambles though. Not surprised you're spreading the word!

Thanks all.

Yes, I have alerted my bank to the fradulent use of my stored card details and they are dealing.

I have also submitted a report to the Information Commissioner's Office. Grin

Quick update for you - the Managing Director of SpaSeekers phoned me up and threatened me with lawyers if I don't stop speaking ill of his company!

Why don't they give you the money back that you had to pay for the spa then

Stick to your guns OP

LookMaggie · 16/02/2024 18:43

Thanks. It's extremely suspicious that they have plenty of good Trust Pilot reviews but are only rated 2.1 stars on Google.

I'm expecting a horse's head in my bed once the MD sees this!

I've logged the whole thing with Trading Standards as well. Information Commissioner came back and asked a few questions. Takes ages these sorts of complaints!

Good for you OP!

I’ve been meaning to start a thread about an online shop who’ve been so useless that I’ve complained to trading standards. Excuse me while I go name change!

LookMaggie · 16/02/2024 19:04

@NewYearNewCalendar go for it!
But be aware the MD might phone and threaten you!
