Boobs Feel Warm

FedUpOfInstaMum · 10/11/2023 12:09

Posting here for traffic, as no replies in Women's Health.

For the past couple of weeks my boobs have felt warm/hot.

It feels like someone has spilt warm tea over my top or like I have those hand warmer things placed on them.

It doesn't hurt but I'm feeling worried about it. Does anyone know what this could be?

Trying not to think the worst.

Could be a circulation thing. I get a similar feeling on my shins sometimes.

If you're peri/meno age, it could be a hot flush.

Mirrormeback · 10/11/2023 13:28

Not sure but see your GP

I'm 41 and had a baby 18 months ago if that makes any difference? 🤔

I'm also pretty sure I'm still ovulating.

Have you taken a pregnancy test?

No. But there's no way I could be pregnant. Unless it's a gift from God 😂

Did you recently stop breastfeeding? It does sound like mild mastitis maybe, but I would write down all your symptonms since they started and go to the GP. You might need antibiotics, or even an ultrasound to see what's going on.

I didn't breast feed at all. It's all very strange.

Get checked by your GP for inflammatory breast cancer.

REP22 · 10/11/2023 15:12

I agree - get it checked out by your GP. I had mastitis a number of years ago, it was really unpleasant.

Hope all will be well. x

I'm going to book a GP appointment. I'm feeling very worried now.

I'm certainly no expert, but I would have thought that if it's affecting both breasts it's unlikely to be anything really sinister, so try not to worry (which is almost impossible, I know).

It's mainly in my right but I think I've felt it in my left to but now I'm starting to doubt that.

I've booked a GP appointment for Tuesday morning, was lucky enough to get in quickly.

Oh dear, sorry to have worried you. I could have just said "see your doctor", I suppose.

FedUpOfInstaMum · 10/11/2023 17:23

@madeinmanc it's ok. I have a tendency to always think the worst.

The good news in I'm seeing the GP about it rather than pretending it's not happening.

If it makes you feel any better I'm not any kind of medical person and I know nothing about it, so me saying that isn't any basis for worry. You would need to see the doctor anyway, I think, for mastitis etc. so I didn't need to be so direct.

I did Google the symptoms for inflammatory breast cancer and one is warmth of the breast so that why I booked a prompt appointment. It's also more common in younger people and I'm 41.

Glad you've managed to get an appointment with your GP - hopefully they will be able to put your mind at ease. I'll put money on it being hormonal - just your body doing strange things as it readjusts after baby.

PS. I was having "warm" flushes when I was still ovulating/having periods - I used to call them my heat rashes because it never occurred to me it could be hormone fluctuations due to peri. I was early/mid 40s. It's only now I realise that peri starts quietly in the background so much earlier than when your periods / cycle starts going funny.

How would I know if I am Peri? I'm not really clued up it, thought it was years away but realistically it's not?

Could I ask the doctor to do tests? What's involved? I think my cycles have got a tad shorter, maybe?

OP posts:
DatingDinosaur · 10/11/2023 18:48

They can do tests (blood test) but so early on I doubt the tests would show anything up. It is a slow, gradual process - a decline and spike in hormones - so if on the day they take your blood your hormone levels are "normal" it will imply you're not in peri. It's the opposite of puberty. Hormones cause boobs to grow and hair to sprout long before periods start in a similar gradual way.

To be honest, it's only looking back now that I think all the random weird things that happened could well have been the early stages of peri and not just the trials and tribulations of life, family and work (feeling like getting a cold then nothing, lethargy for no explainable reason, random ache when I'd not done anything strenuous, a random period being a bit earlier than normal or a bit heavier than usual then months of normal, stuff like that).

Women are just a bag of fluctuating hormones whether we like it or not!! 😂

SirVixofVixHall · 10/11/2023 18:53

Try not to worry too much about IBC , it is an uncommon cancer. I once got into a total panic about it as I had a red , warm patch over one breast , but it was fine, just a skin issue probably due to hormonal fluctuations. Obviously any breast changes need to be checked , but the consultant who checked me over said it IBC isn’t something he has seen very often.

madeinmanc · 10/11/2023 19:55

Personally I wouldn't go in there saying "I think I'm menopausal" and asking for hormone tests because it might cloud or prejudice any other diagnoses. Just describe your breast warmth issue and let the doctor judge.

Hi, thank you for checking in on me.

I went and got checked out this morning and my GP did a breast examination and said everything looked and felt fine.

She wasn't sure why I'm getting this warm feeling.

I'm also feeling very booby and they both feel bigger and fuller.

I've literally just done a pregnancy test to rule that out and it's negative.

Oh bless you. Thanks for the update I am glad you are OK. Maybe it's just your body reacting to the colder and damper weather? Bodies can do funny things sometimes.

Look after yourself xx
