Hi all - if your baby had or was suspected of having a sensitivity/allergy to dairy, how was this ultimately diagnosed? I'm finding it really hard to be systematic about it.
DD is around 4 months and EBF. I went dairy free a couple of months back as she was getting terrible nappies, spitting up, and refusing to be put down on her back, and it seemed to coincide with heavy dairy days. At the time our GP suggested we try anti-reflux meds and/or go dairy free and I went for the latter. She was slightly prem and tiny (0.4th percentile) so I didn't want to take any chances with her potentially not gaining weight.
Now it's been a few months I'm wondering where to go from here, as it's so difficult to tell whether it's helping. I'd read you should give it six weeks and see if there's any improvement. Things did seem like they were settling at the beginning, but she then had the rotavirus vaccine and for weeks after that seemed worse - for the first time she seemed to be in pain between poos, straining noisily all night. Then just as things seemed to be improving again she had the second dose and we're back to bad nappies and crying in pain between poos for the last 3+ weeks.
Wondered about going back to the GP but not sure what they'll suggest other than to give it more time? My plan was to reintroduce dairy at some point but I feel like we need to be sure the vaccine is not (still) affecting her first. On the other hand I appreciate the vaccine could be a total red herring, so feel a bit stuck!
Thanks for any wise words!
