My smile lines are really getting me down, what can I do

Honestly I don't know where they've come from the past few years. I'm only 35 and have always looked so young for my age but these are now ageing me massively.

It's really making me depressed and lose all of my confidence. Is there anything I can do to improve them? Without makeup on it's just hideous, with it on there is a marginal improvement.

What age is normal for these to start appearing? Help!

Do you mean the lines round the mouth or the eyes?

Retinol is a good place to start (and eventually move up to tretinoin). Do you wear SPF every day?

Yes mid 30s is about the age, sooner if you're unlucky, later if not.

Lotions and potions, even Tretinoin, won't do much if they're dynamic lines, which it sounds like it is if produced by smiling. Though if it's eyes then botox, and if it's nasolabial or marionette (or both!) then fillers.

Following OP, I'm in the same boat...

Does anyone know if there's anything else bar fillers for the nasolabial lines?

They really make me look over a decade older :(

dixeypeach · 09/11/2023 18:02

Same happened to me at 35 I was horrified! Had botox and I was amazed at how they disappeared and made me look so much younger. I haven't had a top up for about 2 years but after the new year I'm going to treat myself to some and try and keep on top of it.

Ontobetterthings · 09/11/2023 18:13

I get botox but I think your best bet would be fillers

NeverDropYourMooncup · 09/11/2023 18:16

Smile more, then nobody will notice them.

Just do some face yoga. The reason we get wrinkles and lines is the muscles deteriorating as we get older and "loosening" connective tissues. Stop the deterioration, build them up with face yoga (specific smile line exercises) for a few minutes a day and see how you get on after maybe 2-3 months.

Filler,
Worked for me

overcut · 09/11/2023 19:31

I wouldn't bother with face yoga. It can make things worse. Research if unsure and you'll see.

very skeptical about this. On a quick google it says if you have fillers it can cause them to last less long. Ok. But I just have to wonder in whose interest it is to pretend it makes it worse? Face surgeons, people who perform filler surgery etc, people who stand to lose money if people do face yoga.

Have a look at Ranjana Khan, face yoga. She is mid 60s and looks amazing because of face yoga. I can also attest to it working - makes a massive difference.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 09/11/2023 19:39

Fillers do an amazing job.

overcut · 09/11/2023 21:58

I don't know how it works if people have filler - no idea, but face yoga can worsen lines and sagging.

Botox

StrangeBrewlook · 09/11/2023 22:48

Which line op, please speficy

Nutellaonall · 09/11/2023 22:53

I would include you LED light into your routine.
I got this after not using my led mask enough and use the all the time now. Can focus on problem areas and hold it to your face watching tele. Just have it plugged in ready to go.
