I know it varies, just looking to hear some real life experiences. Thanks!

4 months, and it was surprisingly not disruptive at all. They created the space in the roof before they break through, so no dust. There was a noisy day when steels went in but we just made sure we were out that day.

Thank you, they estimated 8-14 weeks and was wondering if this was realistic

This is my recollection for ours too.

The steels went in early, then there was a gap.
Then the work was done.
Then a gap before the en suite bathroom was fitted.

The things I found hard was they often wanted decisions very quickly, eg height to put the windows.

Yes agree on decisions coming out of nowhere and needing fast answers. Where do we want plug sockets? How many sockets? Where do we want the lights? All needing answers there and then

Yes, it was much harder than our other extensions, as you couldn't visualise floor / ceiling height due to insulation rules etc.
Our other extensions we fully spec'ed everything up front, but this even where the windows went was subject to where the joists were etc.

about 8 weeks. Very slick outfit!

SusieKin · 09/11/2023 19:07

All done in 7 weeks!

trader21c · 09/11/2023 19:20

8 weeks

14 weeks for structure then they had a week break then came back and painted 2 bedrooms and tiled bathroom and painted down the top flight of stairs that took about 2-3 weeks.

Really good insight, thanks all. Will try to be as ready as I can....

Six weeks!

purpledagger · 10/11/2023 21:01

we were told 8 weeks, but it was more like 12 - we didn't see them much for the last few weeks, as it was more snagging.

i was working from home at the time and it was surprisingly not as disruptive as i thought. The only day it was disruptive was when they were breaking through the ceiling to put in the stairs and they insisted i go out for the day. when i came back at about 3pm, it was all done.

my tip would be to search online eg rightmove for similar homes to yours with loft conversions and see how they use their space. i got a few good ideas from that.

Blarn · 10/11/2023 21:07

Can I jump on this and ask how large the loft conversions are? I'm assuming the 6-8 weeks must be smaller?

Ours is a two bed semi and we are looking at a one room doomer.

Thank you OP Grin

TeenDivided · 11/11/2023 11:19

Ours was longer timescale as we had 2 steels, hot water tank relocating, 11 velux windows and an ensuite bathroom. It is lovely though.

Beignet · 11/11/2023 11:27

Ours took 14 weeks. It was done by a great team who were incredibly lovely and thorough. I was so impressed.

We have quite a large semi detached house. It's now a bedroom/ensuite and walk in wardrobe.

I didn't find it disruptive at all.
