Has anyone else's primary school become completely heartless and unwelcoming?

Bit of a rant.
Messed up today with after school football - didn't realise it was cancelled and so daughter was put in after school club whole I rushed from work to get her.
She was in there 15 mins max. I was totally in the wrong and of course I've paid for the session.

However, I've now had an automated email from the school booking system threatening me with losing her place in the club if I do this again. It's not a message from a real person, just the school booking system, but it just adds to this sense of everything being so formal and inhuman and unwelcoming. All our parents evenings are online, we haven't seen our children's classrooms where they learn every day since 2019 and we haven't seen any of our children's work because their books are incinerated at the end of every year. It's just so drab and souless! Are any other schools like this? Is it a Covid thing or a byproduct of academisation maybe?

In my case it's the receptionist who keeps upsetting me, so rude abrupt and sarcastic. just downright vile.

Have you spoken to other parents about this?? Sounds totally shit

Books brought home at end of the last school year. They are having an open day next week. Nana going as neither me or DH can get off work. Parents evenings are in person. The PTA held a disco in the hall a couple of weeks ago. They are also having a school show at Christmas for all the parents.
No sports day last year but that was rained off not because they didn't want to do it.
It took until last year but our school is pretty much like before covid in terms of access now.

This is a “your school” issue, not an education system issue.

DS’s school is warm and friendly. The headmaster knows everyone, even outside of school. We have parents evenings in person. We are invited into the classroom - DH is doing a reading drop-in tomorrow morning between 8:45-9:15. Lots of school shows etc to go to as well (averages one per term). We get the books and artwork back at the end of the year.

I agree about the unwelcoming and inhumane part. I personally find the school system has zero sympathy for working parents - particularly mums. It’s so disheartening when you are a few minute late because of traffic or something and my DD tells me that all of the teachers are moaning and huffing saying “they want to go home” or “not again”. Or parents evening in the daytime only.

I can rant all day but I know teachers are stretched, I highly appreciate the good ones. It sounds like your dcs school is doing the bare minimum which is a shame. I agree with those that have mentioned to speak with the governors.
