Anyone with basic car knowledge - car stands higher on one and some sort of spring is hanging lower on other side

Arrghh cant edit the title. Spring is hanging lower on the SAME side that the car is sitting higher up.

Someone I know following me after work messaged to say something is hanging down under the car.
Looking at it on the drive from the back, the left of the car is higher than the right, and a spring is sitting much lower inside the left back wheel than the spring on the right.
Pics included that hopefully make it clear.
Obviously I'm going to get it looked at but just wanted to have an idea if this is likely to be a huge expense before I go.

Your susoension's gone. Don't drive it and yes it's expensive.

Not an expert but had similar and was the "coil spring" needed to be replaced. Was a bit pricey but as with all car things depends on manufacture of car/part and cost of labour.
I always ask for the cost of the parts they are providing and buy them from euro car parts or similar myself so only paying for the labour.

Not a mechanic, but springs & lopsidedness would indicate suspension issues.

I'd very carefully consider whether you drive it again as your tracking etc will all be out too I'd imagine (again - not a mechanic).

I think my DH had a BMW suspension issue that cost about 1.5k but it will depend on the issue + your car make + who you use.

Something is amiss with the suspension, I suspect the shock absorber or spring on the lower side has broken and needs replacing.

Buggerrrrrrrrrrr.
I suspected it might be something like that.
Will try to get it booked in.
Bloody thing is probably worth less than it might cost to fix.😂

I knew a guy that always did that. Problem was he wasn't too bright, It all went horribly wrong when he bought a set of brake pads and told his local garage to fit them.

Of course they were the wrong ones. He didn't get his car back until he had paid for the labour to remove and refit his old brakes plus a surcharge for the time it was on the ramp and couldn't be moved. Which is how I know, as I was an emergency lift to the garage to stop the bill ticking up.

As the garage owner told him "The mark up on spares covers the cost of replacing them if they're faulty."

Looks like a broken spring. Shouldn’t be too expensive to replace. Depending on the car the spring itself could be as little as £40 and an hour’s labour. Generally speaking it’s always best to replace them in pairs though.
