Kia ceed or sportage?

Elllieuk · 07/11/2023 16:07

I need a new car as I still drive my old 3 door 2006 car and now have 2 kids under 4. Have whittled it down to Kia Sportage or ceed, around 2019 style. Nervous about getting a sportage as it seems so big compared to my old car, but would I regret getting the ceed? I do mainly nursery runs and to the shops in town, occasional trips further afar but am hoping to have this car for a long time so sort of future proofing too! Thanks

I had a Ceed and liked it. I think people like the Sportage too. Sorry, no help at all!

I've got a sportage and although they look big, they're really easy to drive and you can see everything.
They come with reversing cameras too and sensors.

TheChippendenSpook · 07/11/2023 17:07

It's the 3rd one I've had, I love them so much!

I downsized from a Discovery to a Kia Ceed Sportswagon, best downsize I ever made. The Sportage is higher, it has a bigger boot, but equally has higher tax and insurance. With 2 small children you do need a bigger boot. Have you checked out the Sportswagon? Obviously it's a Ceed just with a bigger boot. I drive a Stonic. Biggish boot, nice car but you do need a 1.6L as the excel elation is not great on a 1.4 with passengers.

Fifthtimelucky · 07/11/2023 18:35

I test drove a Sportage earlier in the year and really liked it but decided it was bigger and more expensive dive than I needed.

I went for a Niro instead. That is bigger than a Ceed, and still has a decent size boot, so might be a good compromise.

Loved my sportage. However the new lease cost was too high so we went with a hyundai tuscan. Sorry not the answer you prob wanted...but sportage was great and got lots for the money too

I have the new Sportage. It's a good car. A couple of things about it that I'd change if I could but overall its great

Pigeonqueen · 07/11/2023 21:08

We have a 2020 Sportage and it’s been lovely but it’s really slow on the acceleration which annoys me as we do a lot of dual carriageway driving and you see everyone whizz past you and it feels a bit dangerous at times as people expect you to be faster than you are. It’s a comfortable, nice family car and the boot size is great but I wouldn’t have another. We’ve got a new Suzuki s cross on order and I can’t wait. The test drive was amazing and blew the Sportage out of the water even though they supposedly have the same size engines.

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 07/11/2023 21:09

It has Auto Hold so stays still in stationary traffic so you can take your feet off the pedals (automatic). There's loads of little touches like the fact it closes the air intake vents and switches on the in-cabin air circulation when you're approaching a tunnel so you don't breathe in pollution. There's the option to have relaxing 'sounds of nature' whilst you're driving (😆) and whilst you're in the car but engine is off, you can plug in a USB stick and watch videos on the big dashboard screen. Oh and my favourite part - you can move the car slowly backwards & forwards when you're not in it and the engine & ignition is off, via your key! So if you come back to your car and some idiot has parked right up to you, you can press a button on your key and it will silently & slowly reverse out 😁

PabloandGustheGreySquirrels · 07/11/2023 21:11

Acceleration is fab on my 2023 Sportage. Even more so in sports mode

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 07/11/2023 21:19

If you're going to keep it for a while - then get the one with the biggest cabin space. Your dc are only going to get bigger! Their stuff will get smaller as they no longer need prams etc, but before too long you'll realise that their cricket bag, guitar, enormous rucsac etc are bigger than your pram ever was

Owned both a relatively recent Ceed and a Sportage, and although the Sportage is newer (22), I much prefer it. It's got a good balance of space, ride height and overall it works best for what we need as a family. I would say that Kia are really hard to beat, especially the current models, the 7 year warranty etc. And this is coming from someone who loves and owned Alfa Romeo and I much prefer the Kia options.

BlueRaincoat1 · 07/11/2023 23:33

We used to have an old Ceed, and now have a 2021 Kia xceed, which is in between a ceed and a sportage. Fully recommend! Little more space tha the Ceed, but doesn't feel as SUV like as the sportage.

Elllieuk · 11/11/2023 07:40

Thanks everyone! Going to test drive a sportage today 😊

I have a Hyundai Tucson which is the same as a Sportage but with a slightly different body. I absolutely love it! I currently have DDs 9 and 3 and am due DS in April but the Tucson fits three across in the back from all my research. Luckily DD1 is a very slim, tall child and doesn’t need a car seat any more.

The boot is big and the cabin size is spacious. It doesn’t feel like you’re driving a tank either because the visibility is really good and I love my parking camera.

napody · 11/11/2023 07:51

Ceed is brilliant- is it diesel? Ridiculous fuel economy- got 70mpg on mine! (Realising that my considerations are more boring than others on this thread!)

marmite2023 · 11/11/2023 07:55

Had a ceed for 100k miles, upgraded to sportage. Both good cars but sportage wins by a country mile. So much more comfortable and safer. Much better size for children in back. However, I have a long commute and do a lot of motorway driving - easily 25-30k miles a year. If you only pop to shops and kids don’t mind squeezing in, ceed has a massive boot. Can fit a bale of hay and bags of horse feed in it.

ricketybeauty · 11/11/2023 07:55

I’ve got an XCeed which I really love, but I wish I’d gone for the Sportage as when I’m lumping toddler into her car seat it feels awkward to lift her and then lower - I feel like a slightly higher car might be easier to do that.

bevelino · 11/11/2023 08:07

@PabloandGustheGreySquirrels you have made me very jealous!

TheChippendenSpook · 11/11/2023 10:37

I hope you like it 😊

Elllieuk · 11/11/2023 17:16

I test drove a Sportage 1.6 engine (2020) today and liked it, but it had no pull at all 😩 felt like I was flooring it to get any speed up.
So I think I'm going to test drive a 2.0 but then it will obviously use a lot more petrol 🤔

This is exactly how I feel about mine. I would never have another one. It’s a lovely, comfortable family car but the engine is really sluggish, especially if you’ve driven similar cars and have something to compare it to.
