This is a proper allergy, isn't it? Or is it an intolerance?

I've noticed in the past that eating salami or pork similar gave me an itchy throat and made me sneeze a bit

I don't eat pork at all in general so never given it much thought.

I just tried eating some bacon, not something I can remember the last time I ate, and I keep sneezing

There's this really strange feeling in my chest! Like a weird blanket of extra weight is pressing onto my chest and making it harder to breathe in and out with ease. It feels like there's a lump at the back of my throat making it difficult to swallow

No lip swelling or anything so I'm not going into anaphylactic shock. I can breathe fine but it feels weighted if that makes sense. But it's awful!

I guess I will have to discuss with GP, but should I avoid anything at all even containing pork now?

I have googled and apparently people allergic to cats can get this. I am extremely allergic to cats. My eyes and nose stream if I even get close to one

I have a life threatening reaction to apples and nectarines too Blush last time I tried eating one, my whole throat closed up. GP advised not to eat them again but said if wasn't necessary to carry an epi pen

How worrying! I think especially since you have other allergies you should see your GP and I would be pushing for an Epi pen to carry with you as well.

Yes it sounds like one. I'd ask for a referral to an allergy specialist personally.

Just wondering if you’ve considered whether it might be the sulphites in the processed food? Sulphites is a common ish allergy.

Possibly if it's just in meat? But I don't react to processed cheese or anything

Just cold meats that are pork

My son is allergic to peanuts and when he was tested for allergies he was asked about apples. He said that whenever he'd eaten a raw apple (with peel) then the roof of his mouth would itch like crazy. He just didn't eat them after that. He was told that an apple allergy is really common alongside a peanut allergy.

Could you ask your doctor to send you for a full allergy test? You'll see exactly what you are allergic to and can talk to the doctor about your recent experience.

You might have oral allergy syndrome to pork. Its when an actual allergy to an environmental trigger mistakes a food for the trigger and you get a ‘half reaction’ kind of thing. Its because the two proteins are shaped very similarly so the immune system recognizes them as the same thing. My DS react to peanuts like this, he basically gets hives on the bits of the inside of his mouth and stomach that the peanut touches if he eats a peanut…but it doesnt progress any further than that. He is actually allergic to birch pollen.
