Can I keep this for another meal?

On Sunday I made a meat stew, steamed chicory and mashed potato. We ate most of the veg, all the meat from the stew but not all the gravy and about half the mashed potato.
I put all the leftovers together in a bowl in the fridge.
Today, I reheated, chucked in some water and carrots and blended to make a soup (which I cooked sausages in). We only ate half the soup and all of the sausages.

Can I keep the soup for another day? Or is this too much reheating and you would chuck it?
If so - keep in the fridge until Friday? Or freeze?

I think I would chuck it now!!!

I'm wondering how you cook sausages in soup?
What sort were they?

I would freeze it and then defrost it and reheat until it's piping hot.

@BerriesNutsConkers Frankfurter/hot dog sausages. Throw them in and simmer for 10 minutes. Best way I found to get DC to eat a veg soup without complaint!

1 chuck : 1 keep. Exactly the dilemma going on in my head!

I certainly wouldn't feed to children, but might be willing to take the risk for myself. Only if it had been cooled quickly and refrigerated after it was cooked on each occasion.

Labradeedle · 07/11/2023 12:33

I'd not hesitate to chuck at this point. I think it's too much cooking/cooling/reheating/combo of meat juices! Just not worth the risk.

I would say its fine for one more day but probably wouldn't give it to a child.

TreeTopples · 07/11/2023 12:55

I don't get this logic, if it's good enough for you, it's ok for the DC surely? Likewise, if it's not ok to feed to the DC, why is it ok for you to eat it?

I'd assume my DC's digestive system is more robust than mine, as they're more likely to share food with friends/eat something off the playground/chew a stick than I am.

Absolutely serve for another day

I can't link it here because it leads to a pdf rather than a website, but if you 'Google Food Standards Agency reheating' it says you should only reheat things once.

My mother in law is a great believer in the power of heat to kill bacteria, she reheats things multiple and leaves cooked food on the counter for days. Unfortunately she has also made all of us very sick!!
