Tooth extraction and work

Had back molar out today as was infected. Feel rubbish at moment, would I be unreasonable to stay off work tomorrow? Work are presuming I'm back in and I feel guilty but it's an active job and I won't be able to do salt water washes etc as advised as only get 1 break. Not skept well over the weekend and honestly feel quite exhausted.

Why don’t you get an early night and see how you feel in the morning

seems a touch premature to make the decision a few hours after the removal

Flipdiddle · 06/11/2023 16:32

but you do need to explain about the salt washes and needing to be able to do this

I had two wisdom teeth out in my lunch hour and went back to work in the afternoon you are being a bit feeble😂

🤣 yes I might be!

How did you manage salt water washes etc ? Did you take pain killers?

If you don't feel up to it in the morning don't go.

Don't bother asking the people of mumsnet though, they are the kind of people who will be laying on their deathbeds saying how proud they are never having a sick day in 50 years of work 😂

True! I kind of know I could go in and just get through it but want to be 100% and help the healing. I'll decide tomorrow- thanks

Really its only a tooth extraction. It's a really lame thing to phone In sick with. It'll be fine by tomorrow. Tale speed. Painkillers and go ro work

Flipdiddle · 06/11/2023 16:54

I will take a punt that you don’t enjoy work?

happyl · 06/11/2023 16:56

I had a rear molar out recently and it was so painful. I was crying in pain. I've got a high pain threshold too. It was a tricky extraction though with lots of pulling and tugging.

fitforflight · 06/11/2023 16:57

Was it done under local or general?

General I can understand, but I agree I think it's a bit feeble if you only had a local anaesthetic.
Gargling salt water was a 3-4 times per day thing for me. Before work, at lunch, when I got home, before I went to bed. Had to do it for 7 days so it's hardly going to be something precluding you going back to work.

I’m due to have a wisdom extraction soon and the dentist explained to me I would certainly need a few days off work afterwards - who are all these rock hard mumsnetters proclaiming you a wimp ??

1 wisdom tooth
and a “few days off”

😂

Thanks all, I quite like my job but it's physical and demanding so hardwork if not 100% I wouldn't even hesitate if I was sitting at a desk so I guess it depends on the job

I had a lot of sutures after my wisdom tooth extraction, was in pain and looked like a hamster. No way could I have gone to work.

lovelyjubbly888 · 06/11/2023 17:36

@Flipdiddle I’m not lying about what the dentist said though 😂

KittensandPerverts · 07/11/2023 19:52

Jokes!

I had three wisdom teeth, out not long after having my child and I have a VERY high pain threshold.

Childbirth was traumatic right at the end, with no epidural, an episiotomy and then they didn't stitch me up properly which caused further issues.

I'd rather give birth in the same way that I did rather than ever have wisdom teeth removed. I was on maternity at the time but there was no way I could have gone to work if I wasn't and I'm NEVER off. My face swelled to twice the size and the pain was indescribable.
