Random Google Verification Texts

Is anyone else in the UK getting random texts with a verification code suggesting that someone is trying to access their Google account?

I saw that Google was aware of an issue stemming from a data leak (they say third party but their assistance has been minimal) and it seemed like an issue quite a few in the UK were experiencing, I wondered how widespread it was.

You might want to change your password.

I have several times, I still get the texts. I'm even going to change my number.

I've seen several reddit posts and Google threads referring to these issues but I couldn't work out how many people are impacted. It's anxiety inducing, I've had to remove as much as possible connected to the account but Google seem to be doing naff all.

Yes, been getting these every day for a few months. Have changed passwords, checked privacy settings etc, but still getting them. Some come from same official Google text which provides me with genuine codes, others seem to be from another 'Google ' texter. Can't find any other devices accessing my Google accounts. Looking online lots of people getting this. Lots in Australiaa few months back. Someone suggested it's to encourage you to remove two step authentication so you don't keep getting bothered by these texts and this allows your account to be more easily hacked, but don't know if this is true. I wonder if it's an IT glitch in Google itself or one of their apps? I noticed it increased after I left a review on Google maps. Without access to my phone, and with two step authentication switched on, I can't see what hackers would gain from this.

If they try to log in to Google, and call you pretending to be from Google, saying they need the code to keep your Google account open (or "protect" it!), and collect the code before it expires, they have access to your Google account, and can change passwords, maybe even linked number, etc. But they need to call you at the right time I think, and bank on you believing they are from Google.
