I've gained over a stone since summer, again 😭

First 5 months of the year consisted of me loosing weight for a summer holiday.

Since then I've gone from 11st to 12st.

My scales were broken and we're showing me at closer to 11st and although I felt heavier and clothes felt tighter I just trusted the scales in a blissful state of denial.

New scales and checking the old ones with weights confirm.

I'm so pissed off with myself.

I've had a bloody gastric sleeve and I still can't keep my weight under control.

Now I'm thinking about all crash diets and VLCDS to lose a stone before christmas.

Im so fed up with myself.

Have you looked into insulin resistance? This isn't diabetes, or even pre diabetes (though it can become it). Long story short is that if you have IR your body doesn't respond to the insulin the same way someone without its does. So your body produces more insulin. Which does the job, but also causes fat stores, increases hunger/decreases the feeling of being full and can cause you to crave carbs and sugar, which spirals with more insulin production. To rectify this you can intermittently fast and/or go low carb or eat a low GI diet. Research it. I bet it will help you

I get that, but you need to reframe your thinking. Concentrate on the massive success, not the tiny blip.
Then onward and upward. You've got this.

You are an emotional eater

When I am angry I run
When I am sad I listen to music
When I am happy ... let's move swiftly on :-)
When I am bored go for a walk even if it's dark and wet
... what are the emotions you feel most that lead to overeating ?

No one "naturally" stays thin. Your labels and self beliefs will always hold you back. If you call yourself a "sugar addict" you'll behave as such.

I've been there. It's taken a long time to get to a place where I'm happy and in control around food. I'm just back from a week's all inclusive and I didn't gain any weight or ever feel stuffed. The answer is really boring. Eat food, not too much, mostly plants. Move your body. Weight loss is sloooow, even more so when you are older. There's no "diet" out there that will reset your mind, that's down to you. Programmes like Slimpod, ICMYT, etc. can help.

I hear you. I put on a stone over time and it wasn’t shifting so I have joined slimming world. My problem is not really what I eat but snacking and portion size.

You've lost 6 stone so your overall trend is down! You've done great so far Flowers

I have no training in nutrition, and am personally overweight wanting to lose weight. My personal thoughts are, that particularly after weight loss surgery, you really really need to be careful how you fuel your body. You don't have much space for nutrition, so better make it good stuff. So I'm sorry, I think you need to curb that sweet tooth. Sugar gives an instant high, you need to train yourself to get that fix elsewhere. Your tastebuds will change if you cut the sugar out. If you cut out the super concentrated energy (ie sugar) it will be a good start to your continued weight loss.

As I say, I'm on the weight loss journey too so have no right to suggest what you do but I do have a friend who had some sort of gastric surgery who continued eating the same unhealthy food which got her overweight in the first place and it totally befuddled me! She does weigh less than she started out, but isn't exactly what you'd call healthy in weight or nutrition. Plus no exercise.

Anyhow, I wish you well however you choose to deal with this stage. I hope you can find a way to get the weight down for the long term. When you do, let us all know how you did it. Personally, I'm sad to admit that I need to curb the sugar and alcohol. I did lose a good amount of weight a couple of babies ago and never lost a pound in any week I had wine.

Slimpod. Sorts out your head and your relationship with food, if you engage properly, it's a game changer.

The problem with thinking of it as a diet is everyday is a 'last supper', you fall of the wagon and think fuck it, then binge as you'll start again tomorrow. It's a very damaging mind set.
