Exceptionally light periods as standard - how will my menopause be?

Hey all,

I'm 40 now and have always had exceptionally light periods.

As in - all over within about 36 hours, barely enough blood to fill 2 small tampons. Albeit I still get sore boobs and enough period pain to take a couple of painkillers. I hear of other women soaking through pads/tampons and flooding and I've never had this. (I do appreciate I'm lucky, unless there is a bad reason for my light flow!)

My cycle is also usually pretty long - about 30-35 days.

This has been the case whatever weight I've been (9st-15 stone). I would say they have actually got lighter over the years.

I'm childfree by choice but I wonder - does this mean I would have struggled to conceive anyway? I've wondered if I have PCOS - had a bit of acne and had blood sugar issues.

Anyone else been like this? Will it mean I have an easier/harder menopause?

Thanks

I can't answer the menopause bit but I'm like this and had no trouble conceiving

Not sure if it is linked in any way but I had light periods and I guess a pretty uneventful menopause not needing any medical intervention at all.

I was like that. Now I’m peri and I flood every month on the second day of my period. Heavy then the next day or so. I used to be 3 days of very light. Now it’s a full 7 days.

So hard to know though. My Mam was the same age when she started peri (was no such thing back then and she suffered bad).

I am similar, had 4 kids all conceived within 2 months of trying. Menopause menstrually was a breeze - periods just got lighter and lighter and disappeared. However I have had lots of joint issues, anxiety and weight gain, and ended up on HRT for those issues, plus vaginal dryness. Don't get bleeds on HRT much either. About 2 a year, still extremely light.

I was the same as you OP 48 hours maximum length of my period, I have had a pretty easy menopause (post menopause now) the odd hot flush and my periods just stopped, no flooding at all.

I was like this too, but with much shorter cycles (22/23 days). I still had at least a week of PMT every cycle. I couldn’t conceive, even with IVF, because my womb lining never thickened up enough.
I’m now in perimenopause. My periods got even lighter, cycles more random. Loads of perimenopause symptoms and having a fairly bad time of it atm. I’m 50 and on HRT.

I had light periods ,over and done with within 3 days . I had one last dreadful period at 49 and bled heavily for 8 days and couldn't leave the house as needed to change every hour and that was it never bled again, lots of other symptoms though but manageable so far,I'm 53.

Thanks everyone, interesting to hear that I've not been the only one with ridiculously light periods! (Again, thanks be to God!)

Interesting that this might mean my womb lining would never have thickened enough for a pregnancy.

Funnily enough my mother was the exact opposite - "normal" heaviness periods as regular as clockwork, conceived easily but ended up with periods so heavy that she had a hysterectomy at age 40.

Fingers crossed for an easy menopause.
