Do you regret getting shutters?

I'm about to take the plunge but have The Fear all of a sudden. Are you glad you went with shutters if you have them? Thanks!

Love mine! They look so much smarter than curtains where we have them, and brighten up a bit of a dark room. Also great for privacy as this room is seen from the road - I love being able to tilt them so we still get light without feeling seen all the time!

Still love ours. Wish we’d got the ones which concertina open though, but they were too expensive at the time.

Still love ours. 6 years later.

Love ours, have them in all rooms as we’re on a busy road.

Love mine and no regret.

Yes I do. Dh wanted them, I didn't. We got them and for all the reasons I thought I didn't want them, I loathe them. (Feel
Like I'm behind bars even when they are 'open', can't open them into the room without them sticking out annoyingly, cold, look a bit sterile, get dusty, take up half the window sill in my bay windows which I previously liked styled up with nice pictures and plants and such. They were expensive plantation style ones and now we're stuck with them. I long for my big thick curtains back. I like texture, a bit of design or colour, and the added sort of drama and glamour of curtains that you can sweep open and shut. Shutters don't do that, plus everyone has them and they all look the same.

Everyone else in the family loves them
Mind, to be fair and give the opposite view!

SaltyLemons · 05/11/2023 12:06

Yes my fears are about them making the room look darker / not being open-able. But I'm glad h the consensus so far is that it's worth it!

Not a fan. I have them downstairs because I have to (front garden is only 1m deep and everyone can see in all the time) but they do block a hell of a lot of light and make the room feel very dingy compared to upstairs where I don't have them.

This is unsurprising, as even when in "open" position , about a third of the window surface is blocked by the wood of the shutter.

The owner of the company that installed my blinds talked me out of them (and a more expensive sale for him) He said he had them previously but they cover a lot of the window even when open, so darker. He took his out and had normal white slatted horizontal blinds. Most people round here have the bog standard blinds, which we went for too (guessing because he's so popular and fitted so many of the blinds on the estate, and had same conversation).

We bought them for our old house and decided that we definitely wanted them in our new house.
Learnt a couple of things which helped when ordering the new ones.

We have shutters and curtains which together give 100% blackout but also look warmer (and are warmer) than shutters alone.
Unlike a PP we did not go for concertina second time around and instead each shutter is in its own frame.
Have the upper slats able to tilt separately to the lower slats.
No operating bar, you just tilt the slats.

For OP and @piscofrisco this is why I am getting top down bottom up Venetians. Look quite shuttery from the outside. You can have them open from top or open from bottom. Or just a panel in the middle to block a bit of the tv glare. Full flexibility. Doesn’t have to open into the room. Light enough looking to dress also with long voiles or curtains. Cons are very expensive. As in more expensive than shutters. Only sold by luxaflex.

Lemonademoney · 13/11/2023 22:28

Love mine but I have them in my south facing rooms. Not sure if I’d have them on the other side of the house as would worry about light.
