Would it be a bad idea to give this to a charity?

One of my friends is involved with a charity which has said they would benefit from donations of suitcases.
I have a very smart large case which is on 4 wheels, which I bought last year and has only been used once. However, the retractable handle you use to drag it along no longer comes up. I can't use it as I find it too much to stoop over the case to wheel it along. I was wondering if this means that it is now useless as a suitcase or not.
I could quite easily take it to the tip, but won't if if might be useful to someone. I don't want to offer it to charity if it would be seen as insulting to offer something that is not 100% right.
Can I ask your opinions on this?

I would phone them and ask tbh. They may have someone who can fix that kind of thing

No it's broken. Don't give it to a charity because they will be the ones who have to dispose of it.

Mention it to your friend - the charity might have odd job men (or women) who can fix it.

My organisation asks for donations of luggage to help refugees who are having to return to their home country. Since this is a four wheeled suitcase that can be rolled along using the small fabric handle at the top, we'd be massively grateful for it!
If people only gave us perfect luggage, we'd not be able to help as many people. As long as it fastens securely, we'll take it gratefully.

There are Youtube videos showing how to fix this issue, could you maybe have a go?

Do you have a repair shop/cafe in your area? It's amazing what some of the volunteer menders can do to salvage items. Usually they ask for a donation to help with building hire etc.https://www.repaircafe.org/en/visit/

Yes, it is easily possible to wheel the case along using the plastic handle. It's just that the handle doesn't extend. Someone shorter than me could probably wheel it along without bending as it is quite a tall case. The charity who asked for cases is a charity helping Asylum seekers.

That could probably be fixed by someone who had the right tools and knowhow.

Brilliant idea! Yes, we do have one of these repair cafes. I will get it fixed prior to donating it. We have no need for the case ourselves as we have already bought a replacement. Thank you.

Pretty sure a charity would take it, if its only the retractable handle not working. As pps said, they will probably have someone able to fix it.
Better than going to landfill
