Do people really eat meat for every meal?

There seems to be a post every day about the difficulties of catering for a vegetarian guest. I'm an omnivore and I do love meat, but probably only eat it 3-sometimes 4 times a week. And if a guest was a vegetarian I would have no trouble cooking a nice meal without meat-either a family staple or something posher. So do people really eat meat for every meal? And if so-why? Apart from anything else, meat costs a fortune!

Pretty much, yes.

My teen ds eats meat at most meals. Once a week, a three egg omelette or some fish, but mostly meat/poultry.

I recently spent a whole week eating vegetarian food. I was constantly hungry and reaching for the biscuits. It just didn't seem to work for me.

I will probably make two veggie meals a week for me but not more.

We eat meat for nearly every meal
weekends is always bacon/sausages sandwiches or a fry up for breakfast
lunch i usually cook a gammon joint and have that in sandwiches or I roast a beef joint or chicken for sandwiches, we don’t like plastic meat from supermarkets
tea is always cooked meat, like fajitas, roast, BBQ meat, curry, or something else with meat 😳😳 my butchers bill!!

All of the veggie dishes that you quoted are everyday family meals to me. Perfectly nice, but I'd not consider them special enough for a dinner party.

Oh totally. But if we’ve got vegetarian guests, it’s never for a dinner party (I don’t think I’ve ever done a “dinner party”). It’s friends round for food. Family or friends staying for a weekend. All quite relaxed, nice food, just like we’d do for ourselves for a weekend meal.

I do a lot of the time or at least some form of animal product if we count fish too?

Things like omelette, poached egg, smoked salmon, ham, bacon for breakfast unless I have porridge.

Lunch could be soup (both meat and non meat) tuna sandwich, sushi

Dinner something like spaghetti bolognese, chicken pasta...

So one day could be...

Omelette with ham
Tuna sandwich
Spaghetti bolognese

Or it could be
Porridge
Soup
Jacket potato with cottage cheese

Or a mix of anything. I don't worry about my meat consumption, I try stick to my calories and protein, eat some sort of vegetable or fruit for each meal and go from there.

If anyone's looking for more special vegetarian dishes, how about risotto, aubergine parmigiana, a selection of curries with chutneys and breads, a creamy cheese, leek and potato pie or Nigella's Moroccan hot pot? (Google-or I'll post a link)

I think one thing that people who aren't used to vegetarian cooking forget is that meat and fish are naturally salty and vegetables aren't. This is the reason meat eaters say vegetarian food is bland. A bit of extra salt can easily fix this. And you're probably still eating less salt than if you eat meat.
