Hi, my dd who is 9 really enjoys watching films together with me. So far we watched Princess Diaries and Anne of Green Gables. Please would you recommend any tv series or films that we can watch together. Family films or tv series would be good.

I watched a lot of the classics with my DC during lockdowns who were a similar age at the time. So Secret Garden, David Copperfield, Emma etc. Also made the mistake of watching Love Actually as I had remembered it as a very sweet film and totally forgotten the section about the porn actors! At least we covered sex ed as part of homeschool 😆

I watched Miss Congeniality with my 10 year old niece who laughed a lot.

DD liked the Herbie Fully Loaded film with Lyndsay Lohan. Actually the Parent Trap might suit too.

My girls loved old Hollywood musicals. You can't beat Fred and Ginger. Nothing inappropriate, amazing costumes, snappy songs, simple humour, and not too long! I love the old screwball comedies, too.

Anne with an E

I recommend the tv series "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman", about a female doctor and her family in Colorado Springs in the late 19th century.

Thank you so much for wonderful suggestions. I was thinking about Ms. Congeniality and wasn’t sure if it is suitable for a 9 year old. I like this film a lot and if it is suitable will watch with dd

oh had another thought for you, maybe a bit more appropriate.. BBC I player, Ghosts,

TootiiFrootii · 04/11/2023 23:26

There's some very good dramas on CBBC. We've just finished Silverpoint and enjoyed Itch. The follow up series of The Demon Headmaster was great too. It brought back memories of my childhood being engrossed in the original series.

My 9 year old likes all the 80/90s classics. Splash, Honey I shrunk the kids, Mannequin, Home Alone etc
We also watch Chesapeake shores together

SageRosemary · 04/11/2023 23:28

There's a lovely animated film called Ballerina set in Paris, excellent animation, romantic and adventure

Yes dd is just turned 10 and we’ve been watching Ghosts. She also likes watching portrait artist of the year

MangoAF · 04/11/2023 23:30
