He's French and lives in France. In very good health mentally and physically, wears a hearing aid and hears well with it. Intellectual and cultured, well travelled (ex military and FO), loves opera and Classical music, reads a lot of non fiction. Also loves to play golf, and to watch rugby. MIL has dementia, lives at home, he cares for her with nurses who visit each day. Christmas gift is a voucher for their favourite local restaurant.
For FIL's upcoming birthday his kids and their partners and children have arranged a weekend together (a semi-surprise) with a special lunch and have bought him a joint gift of 2 special, large, recently published hardbacks on subjects of particular interest to him.
I'd like to give him a little, thoughtful gift from me as he's someone I cherish who makes me feel incredibly welcome, and he has had a tough few months/year. I don't want to get anything ostentatious or embarrassingly expensive. But what?
Incidentally, he would find anything like a family photo overly cheesy/tacky.
Please help!
