Is 42 too young for HRT?

I am increasingly exhausted and weepy. Around ovulation it's especially bad and I get intense headaches and brain fog. I don't know for sure this is peri menopause but it seems to be getting worse. My concern about asking the GP for HRT is that I might feel worse if they don't get the dosage right. And also, how do I know that's what I need?! Just wondering if anybody else has gone on it in their early 40s? Thanks!

I’m on Evorel sequi patches. I’ve had no issues with them at all except feeling tired on the progesterone weeks and a bit of bloating.

OP I’m 2 months into Oestrogel and while some symptoms have improved (E.g achy feet, itchy skin) the mental health symptoms (rage, anxiety & brain fog) are no better & probably worse.

On the first day of my first period since starting HRT I felt the lowest I’ve felt in ages, it was a really horrendous day.

I’m gutted. Was banking on HRT

is it normal to get worse before it gets better??

GP told me unlikely peri menopause and more likely depression due to a stressful life with young kids .. 🤔

Hormone levels. Tested? If not go back and ask GP to test them. Then you'll both know. They're doctors. They shouldn't be guessing when it's easily established what's causing you to feel as you do.

I am going back for a blood test but I think it's to check iron/general overview rather than hormones. Don't hormones change every day though so they can't get a picture that way?

@TicklishPossession yes you're right, there's very little point testing hormones for peri as they fluctuate hourly, never mind daily! Still useful to get tested as that can rule out other things that can have similar symptoms to peri.
