Does anyone have a Dacia?

Am looking for a 'new' car and Dacia seems reasonably priced.

Am looking at Duster or Sandero. I need family car that can fit a big dog in!

Does anyone have experience of these cars?

Lot of car snobs on here. We have a Sandero Stepway and have put 30,000 miles on it in 4 years, totally fine.

Could never understand why Dacia brought back the name Duster when the original Dacia Duster of the 1980's was quite possibly one of the worst cars on the road at the time. 🤔
Sometimes, heritage is best forgotten.

It worked for SKODA with the Octavia

Are Dacia not juts Renault nowadays anyway though

Renault, but assembled in Romania. Maybe that awakens some people's car snobbery? Or, since Dacia was the land inhabited by the Dacians, its core in Transylvania, people think they were put together by vampires?

You could do better by going for an older something else. I looked at the Dusters which I could have got new or almost new but got a 2nd hand Skoda Yeti in the end... really solid. Not exciting but a good safe bet.

Ive got my eye on a yeti for my next car, automatic, but wont be changing for several years yet (I hope)

Hope theres still some good ones out there

Mr brother is super in to cars and he at one time had a yeti, said it was one of the best. Always recommends a yeti when I'm looking for cars

I have a duster, I did have a Logan before that. I am not a car snob, my Dacia's get me and the kids from A-B on hilly welsh roads cheaply and safely.

Love mine!

My Logan did 157,000 miles with me and cost me a control arm, a pair of drop links and a set of tyres.

My Duster is coming up a year old and hasn't faltered. Did better than my neighbours Tiguan in the snow too!

missskinnylegz · 04/11/2023 11:40

Awful cars. My friend services and repairs them. I wouldn't touch one

Orangesandlemons82 · 04/11/2023 11:42

I have had the new version of the sanderro for about a year. We find it comfortable and spacious for a small car. I don't think there is anything that I have found to be a problem on it. On the newer ones you don't need a key to open the boot. It's keyless entry

RedToothBrush · 04/11/2023 09:38

You say this like it's a bad thing.

Less waste. More efficient. Less to go wrong.

Works for us.

We don't NEED a car with bells and whistles and we coped with the drive and bumps in old cars. I passed my test in the mid nineties - I've not suddenly gone soft and found a greater need for a 'smooth drive' or a quieter drive. These things are luxuries that really aren't essential.

Lol you enjoy your loud uncomfortable car then but you say it yourself - you cope with it.

Life's too short, just get a better car!

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 04/11/2023 11:48

We’ve got a Dacia Jogger. I love it, we moved from a Kia and I wasn’t sure how I’d find it but we’ve driven the length of Ireland and France twice with it since we got and it hasn’t given us a single bit of bother.

Plus we can fit it absolutely everything into it. We can fit in our massive tent, two paddleboards and all the cooking and sleeping stuff into the boot without having to use a roof box plus 4 bikes on a rack on the back.

SpinMeRightRoundBabyRightRound · 04/11/2023 11:50

Oh and two bags filed with ropes and climbing gear and 4 with all our clothes 😄

CatOnAHotShedRoof · 04/11/2023 11:57

We have a Duster. It's just over 5 years old now and we love it. It's comfortable, economic and has hardly had anything wrong with it. It's way better than my old Vauxhall, which was rubbish.

BettyBakesCakes · 04/11/2023 11:59

I was put off by the low ncap safety ratings

157k on 2 sets of tyres Shock

Fourfurrymonsters · 04/11/2023 12:07

We’ve had a Duster for a few years now. It’s our workhorse - we have 4 big dogs, my husband who’s a joiner uses it for his work tools, and we’re doing a big reno ourselves. It’s pretty basic, but we didn’t need it for bells and whistles as we also have a very comfortable “family” car. Honestly it’s been brilliant value for money and is cheap to run. My son is a mechanic and tells me that they’re very easy to work on and parts are cheap and easily available. I’d have no hesitation in buying another one if we needed it.

Viewfrommyhouse · 04/11/2023 12:11

I don't think any but the biggest of SUVs (LR Disco, XC90, MB GLE, AUDI Q7 etc) are any good as family cars tbh. Cabin space is rarely more - sometimes even less - than regular cars. If you want good space and a decent boot for a dog, I'd look at estates like the Skoda Superb.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 04/11/2023 12:21

There is a reason they're so cheap. Imagine a Renault made with even cheaper parts and less well built. So yes they are good value for money but you get what you pay for in most cases. My personal opinion is go for something like Skoda or Seat and look at something a year or 2 older.

Skoda superb - yes!!

I test drove a Sandero last year when looking to replace my Aygo at the end of the finance. It was very slow to respond and I decided to get a secondhand Aygo instead.

Bluevelvetsofa · 04/11/2023 12:53

Why is it snobbish to choose a car for reasons other than it’s the least expensive?

People choose cars for many different reasons. I wouldn’t choose a Dacia. I wouldn’t choose a Vauxhall, or a Jaguar or a Porsche, all for very different reasons.

You pays your money………

Pumpkinspie · 04/11/2023 12:54

Had a Dacia Sandero as a hire car. Was surprisingly impressed with it. Bargain for the price.

TheFairyCaravan · 04/11/2023 13:03

Dacia’s are a Which “do not buy”. I wouldn’t buy one. They’re cheap for a reason.

Sgtmajormummy · 04/11/2023 13:07

We bought a new Duster two years ago when there was the industry-wide problem of no electronic control boards. We needed a new car immediately so we settled on that.
The engine quality and consumption is similar to my C3 Picasso from 10 years before. We chose a higher spec model just to avoid flimsy seats. The bodywork warps and bends to the touch. And currently our model hasn’t appeared in scrapyards yet so we have to pay (premium prices) for original spare parts. I think a wing mirror was €200.

I’d give it a 6/10. The Picasso was an 8 due to bad electrics.

Sgtmajormummy · 04/11/2023 13:09

(€200 including labour)
We have a dog (mini schnauzer) but he goes with his harness and seatbelt on the back seat not the boot. I’d say a kennel for a Golden Retriever would just about fit in the boot.

SkaneTos · 04/11/2023 13:10

My parents have a Dacia Sandero. They love it.
