Constipated as soon as you leave your home county??

I am not the poo troll.

We fairly recently brought a caravan and I keep getting ridiculously constipated whenever we are away. I'm never constipated at home, yet I keep everything the same - oats for breakfast, plenty of fruit and salad etc, drink plenty of water. Yet, away in the caravan, I can't poo for 3 or 4 days 😦

Anyone else get this? Can you do anything to prevent it??

Stress or change of routine?

GigiAnnna · 03/11/2023 21:05

Yes, I hate using toilets that aren't my own for a poo. The toilets on holiday always seem really small or too low down. I think it's a combination of that and being out my usual routine and diet.

Dacadactyl · 03/11/2023 21:11

Lol, yes this is a thing.

With me tho, if I'm away, I do eat differently (more processed stuff) so I just put it down to that. I'm not eating porridge and salads as usual when I'm on holiday.

I was always the same when I had the caravan. We stay self catered and would eat/cook/drink literally the same as we'd have at home, there was no anxiety about using the toilet, I just.. couldn't. And I never worked out why. But you can guarantee that when I got home I'd be bursting to go as soon as I walked through the door. Utterly bizarre.

I don't get constipated as such, i just don't seem to need to poo. It's like some subconscious poo fear in strange places. I once went 8 days at an all inclusive resort without pooing. I felt fine 🤨

Yup happens to me (I live on the south coast but regularly visit family in the Midlands) I've chalked it down to the change in tap water, some areas having hard water others soft etc. Also some areas fluoridate and others don't (not sure if that would make a difference but point is there's lots of differences)

My dh gets constipated as soon as he has to stay anywhere apart from home. Like a 4 day lock up situation until his body gives in.

Yep, it happens to me every time we’re on holiday. Can’t poo in strange loos. I take Fybogel to encourage it and usually manage in the end. If I don’t I feel dreadful. As soon as I get home I have to dash for the loo. It’s very frustrating.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone.

I had forgotten about movicol, one of my kids used to be on it. I think I'll add it to my usual bag of first aid type things I keep in the caravan.
It's definitely not a mental block situation - we've been camping since I was a child so I'm quite use to using loo blocks or our caravan loo.
