What does a "free Palestine" look like to you?

If you're in the "Free Palestine" camp, what does this look like to you? What would you do about Hamas and what would you do with Israel and Israeli people?

I am not in the Free Palestine camp. Jordan was the state created for the Palestinian people.

Ididivfama · 03/11/2023 15:57

I would love to know this. I used to be a ‘free Palestine’ person and I’ve realised that it’s a very easy thing to say but actually empty words. None of this is ‘nice’. There’s no easy answer.

No it's not in any way, this is counter factual propaganda, for people who want to justify Israel's constant theft of Palestinian territory.

Condo · 03/11/2023 21:40

I agree @Papyrophile but it doesn’t sort the hard left agenda

The history of Jordan

And? Part of the Mandate was given over to the Jewish people and the rest to those who would become the Palestinians. Jordan wasn't given as a territory for the Palestinians.

It's laughably false to claim that it was. Anybody can have a few minutes googling to see that it's utter rubbish and more propaganda used to pretend that Israel has the right to take Palestinian land.

Which is another topic for another thread.

The Islamophobia on this thread.....

I agree, but I feel compelled to answer bullshit propaganda.

sleepyscientist · 03/11/2023 22:55

A free country not targeted by settlers from Israel. Kind of like Ireland and Northern Ireland. Only way I can see it happening is if countries like us and the USA agree to a boots on the ground peace keeping force and restrictions are placed on who can take office for the next day 100 years

Papyrophile · 05/11/2023 19:55

I don't think my view point is Islamophobic, because I enjoy society in Islamic countries. But I prefer women's rights to education, and female freedom, to the total dominance of men, in the general interest of societal health. I want to see women getting education to masters and beyond. I want to see women free to work, outwith the control of their male relatives. And girls free to explore their intellectual interests instead of being married at 14.

And in my opinion, all of this is much more likely to be possible in a Western-ish democracy, like Israel. There's provision for LGBTQ+ relationships. for example. Even the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is (slowly) moving to a more liberal stance. But not Iran and its ultra-islamicist repressive views. Please consider the girls who have been murdered because they did not want to wear the hijab.

Teddleshon · 05/11/2023 19:57

If you’re gay Islamaphobia is an entirely rational viewpoint.

This could be expanded to "If you're a woman, ..."

Lentilweaver · 05/11/2023 20:03

How do you think the Palestinians will educate their children if they are all dead or injured? Even assuming there is a ceasefire, why is it more likely that Israel will ensure Palestinian women are educated and gay Palestinians live freely?

Papyrophile · 05/11/2023 20:04

That's no longer the case @BalloonsInWater . My nephew and his wife live in Riyadh and her career in fashion seems to be going fine. You won't see her designs underneath the abayas worn in public, but she seems to be selling plenty.

Lentilweaver · 05/11/2023 20:07

The world's largest democracy is not a "Western-ish" one, whatever that means. There's more than a whiff of white saviour about this thread.

CeeJay81 · 05/11/2023 20:07

Jordan wasn't created for the Palestinian people. I believe their should be both a Palestinian and a Israeli state. It was our(UK) idea for both people's to have part of the land. The land was British Palestine before that.

Modern-day Jordan has been inhabited by humans since the Paleolithic period. Three kingdoms emerged there at the end of the Bronze Age: Ammon, Moab and Edom. In the third century BC, the Arab Nabataeans established their Kingdom with Petra as the capital. Later rulers of the Transjordan region include the Assyrian, Babylonian, Roman, Byzantine, Rashidun, Umayyad, Abbasid, and the Ottoman empires. After the Great Arab Revolt against the Ottomans in 1916 during World War I, the Greater Syria region was partitioned by Britain and France. The Emirate of Transjordan was established in 1921 by the Hashemite, then Emir, Abdullah I, and the emirate became a British protectorate. In 1946, Jordan gained independence and became officially known in Arabic as the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.[11] The country captured and annexed the West Bank during the 1948 Arab–Israeli War until it was occupied by Israel in 1967. Jordan renounced its claim to the territory in 1988, became the second Arab state to sign a peace treaty with Israel in 1994, and since supports Palestinian statehood within a two-state solution.[12]

There should be a 2 state solution...BUT they both have to be democratic states with equal rights for all. Right now Israel is the only country that has this in the ME.

Papyrophile · 05/11/2023 20:15

Israel is the only democratic state in the ME. Hamas are not offering the people of Gaza a democratic solution.

Lentilweaver · 05/11/2023 20:16

Neither is Israel.

Papyrophile · 05/11/2023 20:21

Israel does offer its Arab citizens one person one vote, exactly the same as Jews. And you know what, they participate in elections and elect local councillors and MPs to serve their interests just like legitimate voters anywhere on the planet @Lentilweaver .

Lentilweaver · 05/11/2023 20:27

It's an open air prison. As many international organisations have said. Getting a vote doesn't help them much. Killing thousands of children is unlikely to help them educate their girls either.

There are many, many countries in the world that have experienced Islamic terrorism and threats to eliminate them and establish a caliphate. Israel is by no means the only one. It just behaves as if it is.
